um anyway, she was a real worry wort yesterday, completely zombified, so we bought a test, did it, it was non-pregnant, and then she brightened up to her normal lovely, bubbly self

women eh?

it was an 'early pregnancy test', to be taken roughly 5-10 days before period is expected (according to the box)

i think shes a weeks late or soemthing like that?

their all the same rite? i bloody hope so.

you can get a negative result when you are pregnant. depends on your hcg count in your urine. thats why its best to take it first thing in the morning when your urine is stronger and will have stronger hcg counts.

however , dont tell her this yet. i dont think shes preggie anyhow and im betting she starts her period soon. i dont think shes late. i think when her period was late last month or whatever it got a new calendar.

If she's had a late/missed period twice in a row then it could easily be a diet thing. I hear zinc deficiencies can cause period troubles - however, If you're worried then I suggest you + her go and see a doctor.

Yeah, I bet she's a lot happier now! Sheesh!

It's possibe for a pregnant woman to test negative on a pregnancy test, but it's highly unlikely. They're pretty accurate now, able even to pick up pregnancies that aren't going to last. Not all of them do. But make sure first of all that she's actually late. Find out how long her cycles really are (28 days is only average, not an iron-clad rule!) or if she's even all that regular. She may also not keep very good track. But "late" for a woman on a 35-day cycle is different from "late" for a woman on a 21-day cycle. In general, hCG levels double every few days for the first 8 - 10 weeks of pregnancy, so if you're still feeling paranoid, test first thing in the morning every couple of days.

If this goes on for much longer, she needs to see a doctor because there are all kinds of things that can cause disruption in a woman's cycle. Some of them are pretty minor, like stress or too much exercise, but others can serious. Amenorrhea is a possible symptom of anorexia, bulemia, uterine fibroids and ovarian cysts (PCOS). It's also possible, but extremely rare, for a pregnant woman to not have hCG in her system at all, so if there's any reason to believe she's pregnant and her period is two months late, she needs an ultrasound. It's even more rare for a baby to hide from an ultrasound, so if she passes that, you can breathe freely again.

In the meantime, try this site: http://www.fpq.com.au/factsheets_brochures/menu_contraception.stm. I'm not sure what's available over the counter in Australia, but it looks like the prescription options are pretty much the same as the US (including an interesting new implant, from the looks of it), so find something with a success rate you're comfortable with and use it.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
