I don't usually overanalyze situations, but I am a little confused lately. I'm in school, so let me describe a typical scenario.
I get to class a few minutes early and some classmates are waiting outside. I ask a guy if we had anything due today or something along those lines. Then, the girl sitting nearby will start answering the guy, as if he was the one who asked.
I make eye contact with the girls in these types of 'conversations' and they look but don't talk to me directly, even if I look at them and ask a question. It seems they acknowledge my presence but do not talk to me.
Another example is when I try to initiate conversation with the girl by first asking her something. Yesterday, of the many times this happens, the girl stared my way and maintained eye contact, and so I asked if she knew class was cancelled or not. It was as if she is deaf and mute because she just stood there staring and did not say a peep. Is she trying to stare through me like superwoman?
They look directly at me, but treat me as if I am completely invisible.
I think this somewhat inhibits the opportunities to get to know girls in and around the classroom environment. Same thing happens in class too.
What's funny is that if I never showed up or said anything in these situations, no one would have started talking. I'm the one who got them to open up to each other, but they ignore me as if I don't exist.
I don't dwell on these things, but it would be helpful if I knew how to get around it. Anyone else get this type of reaction? Are these girls just shy, or just very rude - and if so, why do I seem like the only one being ignored?
Thanks for any insight.
