So I was up at my usual bar the other night when one of my friends who works there propositioned me to work the door since the usual guy called in. So I said what the hey and went along with it.
It was freezing ass cold, but they were all very nice bringing me coffee the whole night. I guess it helped I was the only guy on the staff that night.
Anyway, it was a night and day experience from the way I'm usually treated up there by the people I didn't know. The big tough guys who usually give me, "What are you looking at?" type looks were talking sports with me. The HB8s and 9s that usually act snotty were smiling, talking to, joking with, and in some cases even flirting with me. A table of girls at one point even called me over just to chat. And everything I said hit dead on. I had them eating out of my hand.
There's apparently instant status in being the "gatekeeper" at a place people want to get into. Because they have to go through you to get in, they treat you with a lot more respect.
I had a great time. I'm going to have to look into doing this on a regular basis.
Anybody else had an experience like this?
