Yes hydrogen is combustable, just like gasoline! Crazy!

Also, the amount of single commercial hydrogen stations to set up would be far less than the amount of gas stations currently. This is because hydrogen could be produced in the home, not at a refinery. Just hook up a water tap and plug into the electrical grid.

hydrogen is also a very large gas, which means very large tanks would be necessary to run a vehicle off this fuel type.
You do realize that you can compress hydrogen gas? Honda has an excellent fuel cell prototype that uses hyrdogen compressed to approximately 500+ atmospheres. There are also other storage methods that do not involve hyrdrogen as a gas at all.

also currently, to get hydrogen into the state where it is usable as a fuel, takes power to do....more power with our current technology then the fuel would be worth.
Agreed, we would need a vast more amount of power for a hydrogen economy. A hydrogen economy is pretty worthless unless the majority of power production comes from nuclear (fusion or fission), or renewables (wind, water, solar).

we will run out of crude oil one day, and an alternative will be required. will it be hydrogen?
No, we need the alternative now, before crude runs out. We still need oil for many other uses, other than a dirty fuel. We'll still need it for jets, plastics and lubricants. We can't switch to a hydrogen economy after we run out of oil.

yeah check_mate I would love to just get my bike out and ride it to wherever I need to go. Unfortuanately my bike is under 8 feet of water because my friends decided to play a joke on me and now can't find it in the pond.

Then the fact that it takes fourty minutes to drive to the nearest town is a troublesome aspect for me because of all the time it will consume. I would love to be able to just bike it down to the mall or to the baseball field but that is a pipe dream because of all the amount of time it would take.

Public transit?!? HAHAHAHAHA there is no such thing as public transit out here other then the school bus.

While everyone is debating oil (or as I see it, blowing exhaust), here are some tips to save gas/petrol:

-Don't brake too much. I know its cool to make skid marks, but its a gas waster. Glide to a gentle stop. In fact, most times when I slowly glide to a stop, the light turns green and I don't even need to brake.

-Don't use a car if you don't have to. Unless you live in Mongolia, public transport fees are calculated to be cheaper than driving.

-Walk if its under 20 minutes (it'll take some of that fat off - no matter what some people say, fat ugly guys don't get laid with hot chicks!)

-Sharing a car means half the gas costs
