Yes hydrogen is combustable, just like gasoline! Crazy!Originally posted by D'light
for one, yes hydrogen is combustable. also, the country is full of what types of stations, thats right gas stations. the entire system would have to be built.
Also, the amount of single commercial hydrogen stations to set up would be far less than the amount of gas stations currently. This is because hydrogen could be produced in the home, not at a refinery. Just hook up a water tap and plug into the electrical grid.
You do realize that you can compress hydrogen gas? Honda has an excellent fuel cell prototype that uses hyrdogen compressed to approximately 500+ atmospheres. There are also other storage methods that do not involve hyrdrogen as a gas at all.hydrogen is also a very large gas, which means very large tanks would be necessary to run a vehicle off this fuel type.
Agreed, we would need a vast more amount of power for a hydrogen economy. A hydrogen economy is pretty worthless unless the majority of power production comes from nuclear (fusion or fission), or renewables (wind, water, solar).also currently, to get hydrogen into the state where it is usable as a fuel, takes power to do....more power with our current technology then the fuel would be worth.
No, we need the alternative now, before crude runs out. We still need oil for many other uses, other than a dirty fuel. We'll still need it for jets, plastics and lubricants. We can't switch to a hydrogen economy after we run out of oil.we will run out of crude oil one day, and an alternative will be required. will it be hydrogen?
