Now I will write something more constructive to the topic.

- I do agree that the actions are barbaric, that's only common sense

- Let's not forget that China is till a developping country, you can't really judge with standards of the richest and most developed countries

- The bottom line is money. Like the article pointed out, less than 3% of the dogs in China had rabies vaccination, because the locals just don't bother. Too much hassle, too much money.

- If you had a similar case of rabies outbreak without any other effective measures of containment in any country, the government would do the same. Don't tell me "you can capture and euthanize thousands of dogs with proper equipment & personel", like I already said, all that requires money, we are talking about a developing country here

- China gets criticized a lot these days, simply because she's in the spot light. Many countries in Africa, Asia and south America are much much worse, things that are 1000 more barbaric are happening everyday there, but no one cares, the media doesn't say sh*t about those things, because they are NOT sensational. China bashing is definitely "in" these days.

Totally agreed. When the same things and worse happen in Africa, democratic Russia, etc, White Western liberals blame it on poverty and elicit sympathy and donations for them.

But when it happens in China (which is also still relatively poor), they blame it on the people and evil Commies and invoke mass contempt for them all.

Some of the posters on here, failed to see the whole problem.

1) First if this happened in the US I would even be more enraged. This has NOTHING to do with racism. This barbaric act has nothing to with the fact that they happened to be chinese.

2) Many people view their dogs as family members, this is quite different from livestock.

3) The authorities entered anybody's home they wanted and clubed their dog to death. I've have never heard of this happening in the USA.

4) The USA is no saint and hardly perfect but generally far more humane efforts are done when killing animals over here. It's especially insentive to the owners because these dogs are pets and family for many.

5) If a disease broke out in humans. Would the military start killing humans in mass numbers to prevent any possible spread.

6) Clubing is barbaric, did I say that already?

7) I love chinese food, but I'm glad I don't live in China.

It's just a touchy area. People can be offended easily (and, more importantly, inadvertantly), as this thread demonstrates.

China repeatedly states that she's a developing country, she has never said otherwise. Sure she's developing real fast, but a developing country nevertheless.

China has repeatedly declined to join the G7/G8 because it's a club for the rich and developed, and she knows her place. Under international pressure, she took an observer's seat.

She's like an average girl who's getting hotter by the day, but she never thought about herself as the hot sh*t. And all the other HBs say crap about her because of jealousy and fear, they are afraid one day she will take their place. I remember hearing a day or two ago about another case of an "activist" getting beaten by thugs covertly hired by the police (or whatever the corresponding agency is in China).

It was something like his spine was broken in several places because he was beaten with bats.

But the official government "investigator" wrote it off as self-inflicted.

Um, yeah.

Mainland China still has a long way to go re: transparency and justice.
