Just wondering, who's all on their school's football team? And, what do you think about the rep that comes along with this?

Well, I am...on jv, but i'm only a sophmore. I will be starting at halfback, but that's cause I work hard and I'm in my school's weight room everyday. But it seems as if my rep is going way up with guys and girls, because I'm a big athlete, lol.

It's like now I don't even have to try and girls just im me all the time, when they rarely IMed me first a couple of months ago. Hell, football hasn't even started, but everyone's already talkin about who will be playing what and stuff. It should be interesting when school starts, when I'll have contact with lots of girls on a daily basis.

Me too. I'm gonna be a junior, and gonna play tight end.

I've never played before, but we have a total of 3 tight ends(that includes me)... the tough ass senior never shows up, and the other one has a knee problem.

Football is pretty good except when you have to do your takeoffs for 45 minutes  and bearcrawls  and racing across the field over and over again as a race

But hey, it's worth it.

PS: Can anyone help me with tight end?

I haven't played TE since 7th grade but I know a bit about it. The two main things you have to do are block and go out for passes.

As far as blocking, there is run blocking and pass blocking. On pass plays you'll probably be running a route, so I'll only talk about run blocking.

The first(and most important) thing for blocking is to get off the line as quick as possible. Don't even listen to the quarterback's cadence. Tilt your head slightly to the side so that the football is in the corner of your eye. As soon as center starts moving the ball, fire off into the guy you're supposed to block. Most D-lineman have slow starts, so you can get under them before they move. Then once you get under them, grab the outside of the breastplate of their shoulderpads. This will give you a good hold. If you fired off the line first, got lower than them, and grabbed onto their shoulderpads, you should be able to drive them back.

For route running you're better off asking a fellow TE or WR on your team since different coaches use different systems. Make sure you know some basic routes before practice such as: in, out, hook, curl, post, flag, fly, chair, and slant. Make sure you make the cuts on your routes crisp and don't round them off.

As far as the effect on your rep, it definitely gives you a status boost. Combined with DJ skills it's a deadly combination.

I'm familiar with my routes. I know them all by heart....

So I either go for a pass or block someone?

Who am I blocking?

In the playbook, it should say who you go after. I didn't really pay attention to it though (hey, I'm a kicker, give me a break) so the coach might have said it.

Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.

Yeah. Make sure you do what the play tells you though, don't just do whatever you want. :)

Who am I blocking?
You'll probably either block the DE or OLB, depending on what blocking scheme is used and what hole is being run through. That's another thing, make sure you know the holes for the RB. That will be a key to who you block.

I'll be playing RB and OLB on Varsity this year. It's my senior year, so I'm hoping I don't blow out my knee like last year. :D

If anybody else has any FB questions I can probably help, I've played pretty much every position in practice.

Yeah it's pretty competitive where I live too...In my area, football is LIFE! On friday nights almost EVERYONE in town goes to the games....It's crazy!

I'm going to be starting Guard for varsity this year and I'm a sophmore. The girls love this! I'm the only sophmore starter for my team so that drives them crazy. So yeah, football can definately help you out with the babes!

By the way....Does anyone else hate conditioning as much as I do? We just started and everyone hates it.

We start in two weeks. But for me, this sunday. I'm going to a football camp this sunday until tuesday (overnight). Then next week my school will have a camp of its own, 5 days, 10 hours total.

Ya, I don't like conditioning, but I ran track, so I can take it. My school is usually pretty bad, but we got a new coach 2 years ago and he's been doing a good job.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Conditioning sucks...Although we got lucky. On some days, the coach had me kick field goals for sprints. If I miss, we run. If I make, thats one less we have to run. The worst one ever is gassers. Stand on the sideline and run full sprint to the other one, turn and run back, go to the other one again, and come back. Should look like this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------->
<----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------->
<----------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's one. You run it four times. Now time yourself for 40 seconds and run it. If you don't make it under the time, you have to run a fifth, then a sixth, then so on.

I didn't play FB in HS but I'm going to try for it in (community) college. I for one am looking forward to the conditioning work. I'm gonna hate it while I'm doing it, but love it afterwards. I wonder how the whole social thing works in college. I would guess not anywhere near how it does in high school...

I don't mind gassers that much. I just really hate 210's, where you run around the goal posts in like 40-50 seconds. We condition everyday so we don't really feel the bad effects unless we eat a bunch of dairy foods beforehand...

BTW, I'm 2nd string NG for my team. Anyone know where I can learn some tips cuz my coach is really stupid.

The first(and most important) thing for blocking is to get off the line as quick as possible. Don't even listen to the quarterback's cadence. Tilt your head slightly to the side so that the football is in the corner of your eye.
Nobody listen to that trash, the QB says the cadence before the hike, so if the count is on 3, then you go when he says hut 3 times, not when the center snaps because he's likely slower than you so your missing precious time where you could be firing out. Also the DEFENSE is the one that looks at the center, if you wait for the center to snap, then the defense is coming at you already. That means you'll probably be behind 1 step, and that 1 step is huge is the difference between winning and getting your ass kicked.

Anyways, I'm playing football too and I love it. I started the spring game at guard but most likely the #1 backup going into the season, mainly because of my size, I'm 5'9 190 lbs, while we have 3 guys who are 6'4+ and around 300 lbs, the biggest being 6'6 330 lbs. My main goal in fact for the year right now is to win that job.

Our team here has sucked in the past but not due to lack of talent, but lack of coaching IMO. Our school fired pretty much all the old coaches and hired a new great one, our HC was the D-Coordinator for the #1 Defense in florida, our offensive coord was the HEAD COACH at Bethune Cookman college, and was an assistant in the NFL, and our LB/RB coach was the head coach and Indiana University. I'm really exciting to learn from these guys, I think we're gonna do really well this year.

I played football from 10th-12th grade and started JV in 11th and Varsity on 12th. You don't get a rep with the ladies. It may boil down to school spirit. At my school, its notoriously low so it did jack sh*t (or else I wouldn't be here lol) If you're in Texas with high school spirit, it will probably help but not much. A lot of people like to think football pads and pants are like literal chick magnets but those that say they do is talking out of their ass.

PS: Can anyone help me with tight end?
Know your routes. I played OT/DE and it was good and all that but as a DE it made my day when a worthless TE had no idea what to do so I just smash right into them and basically make them worthless on the field. You also got to be quick. DEs are quick as well (many DEs I know are TEs on Offense) so you got to get the advantage. A good advice for you is to "hook" the DE or OLB (depending on coverage)

Hooking is basically getting around your opponent because the whole purpose is to keep you back from going far. Hooking just makes the defensive player useless and you can sprint out and catch the pass since generally nobody will cover you since safetys and corners have their own people to look for and many cannot sufficiently cover 2 people at once unless you or the other player sucks.

Just go fast and curve in a bit to make sure the defensive player can't rock you from the side which happens quite a bit. Then sprint out on your route.

Of course read the plays. Sometimes you need to pass block in which you just say on the line and make sure nobody gets past you.

I hated conditioning at the beginning of the year because no matter how much you run, nothing is worse than running 150s or 200s in 100+ degree weather. As the weather cools down, it will be easier and more fun. Most conditioning I noticed (at least in my school) was based on how well you did during the practices. If everyone works their ass off, coaches will give you less or make it fun. One time we 50 pointed a team and the week after, we worked hard feeling good about the win. For conditioning, we had competitions of bearcrawls, sprints, pushups, etc. It was fun. But in games where we got our asses handed to us, it was on the sideline for 5+ 150s or 200s the following week as punishment.

------------

Have fun with football. Its taxing on you mentally and physically but you should love getting in there, catching the ball, kicking someone's ass, and proving you are the better opponent. Good luck.

IT isnt about you playing football, it is about you having a passion+guys who share this passion. and since most of the football team are jocks girls are attracted to football players a bit more than regular guys.

I've played tennis in High school, and swam for 2 years. Tennis is no ***** sport, but swimming brought a lot of chicks in hot tub's when we went on road trips.

PS: Can anyone help me with tight end?

learn your blocking assignments and also get better and quicker with your hands, It will help a lot...

Last year when I was playing ball, they put me half and half on Tight End and Fullback and to me TE was easier than FB, and all I had to do was mostly block.........Learn to use those hips when making a block..maybe you'll get a pancake here and there.

You'll be blocking mostly the linebackers and defensive ends..the MLBs are the funnest to stick they're basically right there in the open..I've got a bunch of sites that helped me in the past two years a lot, which were mainly drills designed for my positions and what not and I subscribed to the NFL channel and watched a lot vintage film of players of back in the day and now.....So if any of you football guys need some help or advice I'm here!

And doing the conditioning was a ***** for me and the coaches didn't take any sh*t, If you were hurting, "you're ok son, now hurry up!" I remember once the coaches made us do a lot scrimmaging and then afterwards we lifted weights, did these painful exercises that we had to rotate through, and then we had to do squat thrusts, and afterwards they made us do the b*tch we call 21s which is where you do do 21 pushups and 21 situps and then lower the reps each time until you get to 1 and that last one seems like a little but was the hardest one, and afterwards we had to run gassers for about 45 minutes...MAN THAT WAS PAINFUL!!

also, if you are just starting to play football..LEARN TO TAKE A HIT!

tru dat about taking a hit. I actually joined wrestling last year, I was pretty good, but I quit cause grabbing sweaty men in tights isn't my thing. Anyways, I think wrestling (real amateur style) will make anyone tougher, because I had to wrestle some guys who were 80 pounds heavier than me (at practice) and man, getting thrown down by one of these guys can hurt, specially when they land on you. And taking hits in football is a bit easier than wrestling, cause you have pads and a helmet. But it is a bit harder for us halfbacks (wr's and qb's too) cause we have to worry not only about the hit, but about hanging on to the football.

And about getting more girls, I meant, the preppy girls will like you better than if you didn't play football, but watch out for the gothic girls guys, they hate jocks, lol.

Anyways, what's everyone's 40 yard dash time, back squat, and bench press?

My 40 p.r. is 4.87
back squat is at 260
bench press is at 175
I've only been lifting for 6 months, so i think its good.

Well, I'm off to the football camp tomorrow morning, I'll be back tuesday night. It's at madison (University of Wisconsin) and a few badger players and some of the coaching staff will be there, should be good.

Wait a minute...you're a halfback and only run a 4.8, squat 260 and bench 175????? You must go to a really small school then, lol...we have 250-300 lb defensive linemen that run 4.6's
