I don't know how many of you go to football matches, but this is something special.

Poli Timisoara - Dinamo Bucuresti

Two days to go and I'm already buzzing, I cant sleep, I cant really concentrate...

40.000 people that hate Dinamo from their heart against maybe 1-2000 of red dogs that travel 700 km for the this.

I'm gonna be there among my red dogs.

This is probably the biggest risk I will take in my life. The thing is all the Dinamo fans come with buses to the stadium and are always protected.

Not me. I'm from another town and there will be no protection for me except for the 2 hours at the stadium, then all the people from Bucuresti will get in and leave. Well at least that's the plan, some fights will surely take place...

Anyways I'm gonna be there between 40.000 people that see me as an enemy. In the day of the match the ultras from Timisoara watch all young lads like myself for red scarfs and shirts, beating the **** out of the ones that have them.

I don't know the town, I don't know people there, all I know is me and my 3 lads will see a lot of unexpected events...

I hope I'll get past this without serious injuries, because small ones are almost inevitable because the alcohol in my blood wont let me sit quiet when I will hear something bad about my team...

Cheers guys, nice to know you all.

Fortza Dinamoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Tavii, I think you're a bit overrating your chances of getting injured. I mean, you don't live in Netherlands or Poland, you live in Romania, and, as far as I know, Romanian ultras are not perceived as extremely dangerous.

You say that there are "40.000 people that see you as an enemy". Consider that at least 35.000 of these are average supporters that are not even looking for the smallest bit of violence. The other 5.000, well, most of them are just looking to react to whoever provokes them first.

Anyway, by your post, I get that you'd be quite happy to get involved in some fights or, at least, you are not going to do much to avoid them (you are going unprotected, and you will surely get drunk and ready to react to insults), so we can't do much for you...

Football is just damn ridiculous in Europe. At the most hardcore American rivalry sports matches almost no one gets hurt, which is amazing considering you pack 100,000+ people into a stadium at a time.

Seriously, during Ohio State/Michigan football (American) no one is injured besides the players, and ESPN voted it the number one rivalry in ALL OF SPORTS.

I know you guys like your teams, but throwing bricks at others is just stupid.

In the last round 3 fights took place at stadiums in the first 2 leagues. Dinamo had their stadium suspended 3 times only this season because of violent fans.

But its not the Dinamo fans that scare me. Its the other guys. They absolutely hate us. I can say that this is the thoughest away macth for the Dinamo fans in Romania.

Also Saturday Dinamo II - Universitatea Craiova. The craiova guys were beaten in Bucuresti so they promised revenge tomorrow. 500 of the most hardcore fans are expected there from craiova just for a fight.

Anyways the adrenaline rush will be huge

You realize that football firms in England are composed from smaller numbers? From maybe 15 too 70 people? I'm sure the violent number of people in this crowd will surely get in the hundreds, so if its going to happen its going to happen.

Anyways this will surely get me out of the my comfort zone :)

I'm sure that if you just once went to a derby you would change your opinion. The adrenaline rush that comes from the crowds tension makes it so exciting not the sporting event in its essence.

Nice one mate. Reminds me of the time i went to watch Barnsley play Cardiff City, we were penned into the stadium at Full Time, watching building bricks and other pieces of debris coming flying over our heads...the coach journey home wasnt good either, with windows all smashed up and it was 5 degrees outside - not good.

Good Luck mate - hope ya win

Forza Dinamo!
Thanks mate!

So as an American Ill just assume you are talking about soccer "P

Anyhow answer me this. In America....ok instead lets say in Hartford, football/soccer is like the WNBA. No one cares. No one pays attention to it and so you can undestand my question. I personaly think its an awesome sport but one thing I never could understand was the fans. Why are the fans so crazy? What about the sport makes them want to kill each other and beat each other to death just because they are wearing some others teams jersey?

I think it's connected to the differing histories of class and national/ethnic conflict in Europe, radically different from the American experience. Club loyalty becomes very salient in these societies. Just a guess.

I'm writing a paper on this sh¡t right now :(

Pictures and Videos!!

Hey guys!

Lets start with a train passing through a town named craiova. Their fans just got a beating last Saturday at the match Dinamo II - U Craiova. (this is important for the sake of understanding what happened afterwards). This seemed like the perfect opportunity for a vendetta. So what did they do? They attacked a train that came from Bucuresti when it stopped in craiova. Stupid bytches, just one Dinamo fan was in it to record what will happen, so they hurt innocent people.

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/2991/dsc08836kn.jpg

We got in timisoara at about 1 pm, half drunk, and started singing until some cops said that if we don't stop we are gonna start fights and they'll have to lock us up for the game. Anyways All Cops Are Bastards! So we went to buy tickets.

Taviii: (shouting) -One ticket in the Dinamo fans section!!

The look on the peoples faces there was priceless  So far so good, we didnt meet the brigades formed for fights (20-25 people that just walk around the town searching for us Dinamo fans). Anyways all the people there just looked at us like we were infested with some disease. Well: "Nobody likes us, we don't care" like millwalls fans say it. We were hungry so we went in the university campus to eat (the university is called poli, thus the name of the team). Every fücking guy here had a poli scarf  so the eye contact we got started to look aggressive. We ate drank and it was already 3pm.

Back to the stadium: brigades were packed in front of the stadium. Lucky enough I knew the leader. He said:"we are hunting dogs all day now, the cops are everywhere so its hard to really keep an eye on everything". Yeah right. What a beta bytch, blaming the cops for their impotency. If I didn't know him we would have probably fought with the guys there :D. We get too the guests entrance in the stadium and start singing while the other fans kept trying to get past the fence.

http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/6690/7793dinamojandarmimare35tm.jpg

The cops again move us from there immediately saying that its dangerous so we get in the stadium: they didn't even let you in with change money or cigarettes lighter. To bad we were just about 200 people :( so we couldn't dominate with our songs.

http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/703/7791dinamojandarmimare13ac.jpg

So the pigs searched me 3 times for things I could throw but they let the people from craiova and timisoara with stones in, so they started throwing at us after they positioned themselves right next to us, my God what peasant.

(you can see the large area that was kept free around us so that incidents will not take place, the guys on the right kept on throwing)

The game started and we started singing and verbally confronting the people that kept cursing us from over the fence.

Here are some close ups were you can see me:

http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/7776/zzzdsc09764pa.jpg

After the game my adrenaline started pumping: about 4000 timisoara fans waited outside the stadium for us to get out. The Dinamo fans that came from Bucuresti had no fear because they would get in the police cars that brought them here and will get out far from the stadium. Not me and my lads :D. We wanted to get out between them because our car was parked close. So we bribe the guards and they make an exceptions letting us out of the nest were the away fans had to stay. We get too another gate and walk out. I was a little scared. No police was around, and the guys kept looking ugly at us. Anyways they started running for some stupid guy that stayed in the home fans terraces and kept shouting:"Forza Dinamo". We started running with them and so they thought we were friends not enemies :D after that it was just a walk to the park.

Conclusion: it was more like a picnic then a place for riots. It rained all day, it was wednesday at 17 pm so the stadium wasn't full. About 35.000 people were present and just 200 red dogs.

PS I don't have a clip of this last game but here is an idea of how the atmosphere was at the other terrace were the timisoara ultras sit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwc8uwpTsss

Pretty impressive for these peasants and keep in mind that this clip is from a usual match, while we are their main rivals.

Dude, 100,000 Ohio State fans completely pissed off at the mention of the state up north > 40,000 soccer hooligans pissed off at any other team.

It's a special hatred, because we ruin each other's good seasons a lot, being the last game in regular season play. You shoulda been around for the regular end of the 2002 season, half of the damn city rioted on campus. Overturned cars, couches set on fire, traffic lights torn down. The riot police came and shot people with tear gas and rubber bullets.

Excuse my ignorance but I never heard of the 2 teams you mentioned, and that match being the "number one rivalry in ALL OF SPORTS." is hard to believe when no people died because of it like the Heysel match in the '80 Liverpool-Juventus, without it being a derby.

In my opinion after Dinamo-steaua the greatest rivalry in sport is Lazio Roma-AS Roma, with Celtic-Rangers and Fener-Galata close.

It sounds like fun, but they should have attacked the other fans not the cars.

I don't understand why people have to die to have a great rivalry. I think Yankees-Red Sox is the best rivalry in sports, and I don't think anyone has ever died. People still get their kneecaps drilled off for wearing the Hoops on the Shankill, and like most civilized people I'm disgusted by this, not awed.

MAYBE American sports rivalries are posthistorical, and it's the Europeans who are like cavemen. It's not like the only way to express emotional commitment to your club is by fúcking someone else up.

EDIT: Obscure reference. Hoops = Glasgow Celtic kit, Shankill = Protestant ultraloyalist street in Belfast. Celtic are the Irish nationalist club, Rangers are Irish unionist.
