well...it's about postmenopausal women, so hard to extrapolate.

but if i read correctly, they found...not much of an effect on anything. this is at least consistent with the idea that a little soy protein isn't going to change anybody's hormone balance, at least in the short run. but my understanding is that the effects of soy consumption are bound to be long term anyway (greater than 4 months, at least). this study can't even begin to touch that.

I was worried for a minute. I like flax. I buy the whole seeds, keep them in the freezer, and use a flax-dedicated coffee grinder to grind them myself. The flax powder goes well with oatmeal, honey, natural peanut butter

your body can't break down flax seeds to get to the good stuff. there are other seeds that it can (see the recent chia pet thread), but flax needs to be ground.

how wonderful. i'm guessing a blender wouldn't work too well with a bunch of seeds, surely they must sell ground flax by itself in bulk

they don't, because pre-ground will go rancid quickly (rancid omega-3s are worse than anything else, including trans fats)

even more wonderful! i'll have to take a look at that bag my dad bought a few months back to see if it really is ground flax! tasted like it had other stuff in there too.
how long would you keep ground flax, then?
btw, are you in the states or uk?

i'm in the states.

i see recommendations that you store ground flax in the fridge, sealed with as little air as possible, for no more than a year. i've also found companies claiming a longer shelf life, but i can't find a basis for those claims.
