Hey guys!
Well today marked a milestone for me. A personal goal was achieved.
I spent the early afternoon at the mall, unsuccesfully sarging (no approaches). I get home, feeing a little down, and decide to go for a run to get a little self-improvement in my day.
So, I run for about 3 miles and get to this shopping center. I walk by a gym, and I see this hot [an 8] girl getting ready to come out. I don't let opportunities like this slip me by anymore. I sit down on a bench and wait for her to come out. As she comes out, she immediately lights a cigaratte when she's out of sight from the gym! Well, this is ample fodder for a conversation!
Me: Hi, do you go to the gym here?
Her: Hi. Oh no, I work here.
Me: [laughing] And you smoke?
Her: [Looking embarassed] Yeah. Please don't tell anyone! We have this policy!
Me: I don't go to the gym here. I'm just running by.
.... More conversation....
Me: What's your name?
Her: Shannon. What's yours? [AND HERE SHE REACHES OUT HER HAND TO SHAKE MINE!]
Me: XYZ. Nice to meet you.
Her: Nice to meet you too.
Me: Well, I gotta run. Do you have a phone number? I'll give you a call sometimes. [Yeah, I know that was a little weak, but cut me some slack].
Her: [looking a little shocked]. Oh, yeah. Sure.
Me: Do you have a pen?
Her: No. [Looks frustrated that she doesn't have a pen.]
Me: Well, tell me the number and maybe I'll remember it!
And at this point, she gives me her number. She also repeats it a couple different ways so that I'll remember it! We say goodbye and I run into a drugstore and get a pen to write down the number.
So there it is, my first cold pickup. Here is my analysis:
Pros:
- She saw me being active (running).
- I looked her straight in the eye the whole time.
- I was smiling
- I kept it light, and negged her right off the bat about smoking.
- I demonstrated confidence.
- I'm not some meathead from the gym that was hitting on her.
- She gave me her number and tried to help me remember it. No word of a boyfriend or any other excuses.
Cons:
- I had run 3 miles and looked like hell. My hair was all windblown, I was sweaty, and hadn't shaved. Maybe this is a good thing?
- Our conversation wasn't the world's most stimulating exchange.
- She smokes.
I think I'll call her Tues or Wed and try to set up a coffee meeting for Thurs. Who knows if she'll agree, but I gave it a shot and that's what means the most to me. This was a major goal that I wanted to achieve, and I've finally done it.
