First speeding ticket/radar question

So today I got my first speeding ticket. Came back into my hometown from college and didn't realize some speed limits had been lowered. :cuss:

I can still plead youthful offender. So I'm not to worried. Whats done is done. My summer plans are now ruined because of having to go to court then possibly driving school but I roll with the punches.

I usually am very cautious of speeding unless I'm in a really bad mood and not paying attention. But I started thinking about getting a radar detector and I know there are a lot out there and some are crap.

any recommendations?

I'm kinda looking at the Escort 8500 or ideally the Valentine V1 but dont' want to pay $400 for it.

yes I'm going to watch my speeding with or without one. So I don't need that lecture. I am just looking for something to act as a back up to myself and help keep me extra alert.

I have an Escort 8500 and it works on pretty much all bands. It's good.

On the ticket, did you ask the porker to see the radar? If not he got you in a blast without you actually being over. If he denies you the right to see the radar for yourself it must be noted on the ticket that he refused to do so. Those pukes get away with sh!t like this all the time.

Fight it. Or you can pay it and wait for the points to come off.

Check if you are in a state were radar detectors are illegal and if the cops in that state carry radar detector detectors. If so get one invisible to radar detector detectors.

radar? wtf? i'm dead certain police dont use them anymore. they stopped using them a while ago

its all laser now. the handheld ones are definately laser.

i'm unsure of fixed cameras

For fixed cameras, you can get a special license plate cover or spray some stuff on your plate that is clear but causes glare so the camera cannot read your plate. For radar, there is film that goes over your headlights that will give you a couple extra seconds before the radar gives a reading. There are also many jammers out there, which are illegal under Federal law in the U.S., but most states don't enforce the ban on jammers - check your own state's laws to see.

He let me see the radar or it actually might have been a laser thing I didn't think it was radar. And I told him I thought i was doing the speed limit. I've read up on what to say when your pulled over. But it is legal for me to have them in Alabama.

If i choose to fight I potentially could lose. If I plead youthful offender I will probably simply just pay the ticket. At the most have to go to traffic school, One of my friends was sentenced to write a one page essay. no points, no record, no insurance increases.

I suppose fighting might be more of an option if the cop doesn't show up. I kinda had him thinking I wouldn't be there. Because I asked how to pay for the ticket and get it over with because I would be going out of town for the summer.

Even if you plead guilty, going to court is good because they ALWAYS lower the points and/or fee for first-time offenders, and often second+ offenders.

Wow, where I live now they have laser detection that automatically takes a picture of the driver close-up and a seperate one of the car (with the license plate), calculate the speed, read out the license plate digitally, compare to a central register for repeat offenders and then mail the damn thing to your home with a pre-filled out check for you to sign. And there isn't much you can do about it.....
unless you didn't drive the car (like your sister borrowed it or something), then the licensee has to prove who was driving or he gets it. Police come harass you with the picture of the driver too and compare it to people coming to and leaving your home.

This is your weakness. You just don't realize that your speed does not matter. It doesn't matter whether you use skateboard, bicycle, or lambo going down a hill. Down time is the same, in fact, skateboard is faster than your ****ing lambo.


You are allowing your emotions to control your behavior.


It's nothing something to be proud of. Driving fast can kill people, it cal kill you. Essentially you are allowing your ego to win over you, giving in to that eternal ego masturbation disadvantage. Being an average man.


I don't know about you boy, but I aim for the stars, drive slow, keep it cool.




P.S. Radar detectors are for detecting radar, nothing to protect you against laser, 99% of what cops use. **** your ego over and become a man.

Have you considered just paying the fine? What's there to go to court over? You fvcked up, you pay for it, the end.

I know I ****ed up and I will end up paying for it either way. But at least if I go to court and Plead YO. It won't go on my license for points and Insurance won't go up. Insurance is the main concern.

I'm not upset to really fight it. I accept it. I'm just gonna take advantage of the legal loophole to protect my insurance this time.

Lol lucky bastard. You guys get a break for traffic violations while you're a minor? We get hit even harder, I guess their reasoning is young drivers are more likely to die so they really need to keep us in line. Either way, it sucks.

In Canada that isn't the case, I got a speeding ticket too(incidentally also coming back to my hometown, forgot about a school zone ), but I just went to the station and payed it off, and that was it.

Ticket can make the insurance Go up and in my case I would lose my Good driver/Student discount. It would cost me at least $400 a year.

And I had a trip planned, but its during my court date. I've changed things around though and moved it to the end of summer instead. After thinking about it everything really works out better by waiting.

Quicksilver, who's your insurer? Everyone I know that's gotten a ticket around here saw their insurance go up.

Keep in mind though, that only happens once a year when your contract gets renewed. So if you got yours recently, maybe that just hasn't happened yet.
