I use Premiere and After Effects right now.

Two great programs. Premiere will be fine for editing, You wouldn't need AE unless you want some good effects.

Check out www.videocopilot.net for AE tutorials and a glimpse as to what AE can really do.
I like it more than premiere to tell you the truth, only thing is RAM preview is a b!tch and chews up my CPU like a motherf*cker

PS. DTP, how did you get into the big movie industry?
I have a passion for editing/making movies since I could ever use a camcorder and a little program called Windows Movie Maker.
I've been mastering it ever since and upgrading my editing programs, but I'm not sure if I would make it in the real world.
So I need some guidance on how to get big and where to start.

I'm from the old school.

I've edited on Steenbeck flatbeds with true filmstock, as well as the other end of the editing spectrum, on Avid Symphony Professional. For Mac users definitely look into Final Cut 6.

'Pimp, I don't have one contact or colleague in the editing business who uses Premiere. We all use Avid or Final Cut.

Premiere is for amateurs to use on home pc's.
