Are there any tips for fighting or winning fights that I somehow overlooked? I've been in a few fights before, won them both, but unfortunately I may have a bigger confrontation coming up soon that I need preparation for.

Strange question. Hmm...why not take up a martial art?

Fighting(unless it's a career) is for people who aren't smart enough to resolve issues with their head.

too broad, blinkwatt. hardly applies to all situations.

the best advice to is think and act crazy. a striking martial art is nice, but nothing is better than courage and experience. act psychotic and fearless, strike first, and dont stop until hes knocked out.

if you pull off the crazy act, he'll probably back off before it gets physical

Again, amateur hour.

Don't wait for them to get tired, that's stupid.

Always use your ambiance (surroundings) eg. tables, chairs, walls, bottles, knives, sharp things, rocks, hot sauce (In eyes, if you're at a restaurant) etc...

Always keep your eyes on his hands, what is he carrying? A beer bottle? That's a weapon right there. Always watch out for weapons! Chairs are great against knives and beer bottles.

Cover your neck, temples and face.

Try to strike first, remember, it's a street fight. Anything goes, never underestimate the kick to the groin. Try to stay off the ground, unless he's by himself, then you can take him down.

Face your opponent at all times.

Don't be ashamed to RUN AWAY, if he has 3 other friends coming with knives and you're by yourself, RUN. Don't try to protect your ego and act tough. Get outta there.

Always attack with maximum efficiency. Eg. Don't go for his chest, go for his knee caps. Don't punch him in stomach, elbow him under the chin. Work out hitting where will do you most good.

If they attack with a straight punch, move towards the side, if they attack with the haymaker, a big hook, all you have to do is take half a step back.

Try attacking with straights rather than hooks.

I would suggest learning some Krav Maga.

- run right in and get on him
- scream like a completely crazy motherfuker, to give the blow more force and to induce an adrenaline peak
- forming a fist with your right hand, smash the bottom edge of your palm (i.e. the hard flat side) into the left side of his neck with your one rep max for the triceps cable extension. he will then be unconcious and probably dying so call the meat cart anonymously and haul ass out of there
- if he throws his hands at you in a threatening way, grab whichever arm he throws at you and pull it toward you so he loses balance and keeps on coming into you, and then bite off his nose or one of his fingers while screaming bloody murder and spraying blood in his face
- remember, if you're not psycho enough to stick your thumbs into his eye sockets and blind him, you may not survive
- another neat trick is the open palmed slap to the back of the neck. do this hard and it will stun him for at least 3 seconds. try it on yourself now.

enjoy

I have an orange belt in Krav Maga, highly recommended. Another tip: Stay dynamic, move around a lot, never keep you feet planted in one place. Go in and out, move in a circular motion to break the momentum of your opponent's attack.

Little late to start training now eh? How about imagining you're civilized and work from there?

Thats true (probably a lot for this situation with brighty since the issue seems to keep finding him), but what if your attacker is the one not smart enough to use there head to resolve issues? He's coming at you regardless and its your responsibility to be able to defend yourself/life. In my opinion everyone should be training some sort of self defense and make it a part of there life.

Lol at that kid who was telling you to box with the guy...it's a street fight, so if it involves only fists try to hit him as hard and as fast as you can from the get-go...

he will go down pretty fast if you can throw a decent punch...this isn't the movies, most people haven't really been hit by a good punch.

What about if the kid is bigger than you? I'm 6'4 and 190 lbs, but this guy is about my height but a bit bigger (prolly around 210 lbs) and probably stronger. How do I avoid him getting grapples on me and taking me down to the floor where it'll no doubt be a wrestling match then.

And this isn't a street fight, its a school fight, and I'm not going to bite off any bits of his face, I'm in no real danger of losing my life, but there's not going to be a way to avoid this fight, this kid is absolutely looking for trouble.

Something everyone overlooks;

If he's in close and there aren't a lot of options get a really good strangle hold round his wind pipe. Most people strangle right around the neck, but if you take your grip in about half the usual width you get right round the wind pipe-it is very effective. Everyone I have done this too becomes helpless. You have to restrain though or you will crush their windpipe. Also, if you crush their carotid artery you f*** up the carbon dioxide receptors in the neck and they stop breathing, so watch out for that. Practice getting the hold quickly on yourself/a friend. I've never done it for a long time on someone but 10 seconds+ and they won't be in good shape, or if you crush the cartilage in their wind pipe they will definitely not be in good shape. It only takes one hand as well, so take him down and pound his face with the other hand, basically do enough to makesure he never comes near you again. Good luck,

Quagmire

Best advice for you at this point is to round up your friends and practice fighting them, putting them in holds getting out of them etc. Fight 2,3,4,etc at the same time. That way when the real thing comes around at least you'll be alittle more prepared.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

just don't go for the face. seriously the bone structure in the face is really hard and it'll hurt your fist more if you punch straight on. Also if you punch around to the temple your run the risk of actually seriously injuring your opponent which might lead to you going to jail or some other serious ****. Go for the chest, stomach region. It will get you fast almost instant results and then go to disarm him straight off once he is sidetracked with the pain in his chest/stomach. by disarm i mean get him on the ground in an arm lock or something till he has yielded or calmed down.

and don't go crazy like some of the people here suggest. While it might give you the intimidation factor you won't be able to think straight and unless he's some wimp he's not going to fall for some crazy act. stay calm and in control.

The crazy kicks and flips shown in martial arts are more intimidation factors then practicality. they use that to give them the edge in intimidation because they need to remain calm and focused but don't want to lose themselves into a crazed blood-rush. Now simple practical kicks like the roundhouse and stuff should be used if you have the space, your target will most likely be the head if you can do it (most people can't without some form of martial arts/general training) they'll be down very quickly and the risk of serious injury is somewhat lessened. . . to a degree. Also just pushing forward with the flat of your foot aiming at the chest/stomach is also a good indication of distance if you don't know how to gauge the distance between the two of you.

All in all though, if you can, avoid the fight.

Only fight when theres no way of getting out/ backed into a corner.

Then, fight to kill. Never leave an enemy half dead, never show mercy. He'll come back and shoot you in the back.

But other than that, avoid fights at all costs.

Flyer, killing him may not be a good idea depending on laws. Although ive heard multiple stories of house breakins in which the criminal was inured and sued the house owner and the house owner lost his house and practicly everrything he owned b/c he didnt kill the guy. I'd say look into laws first.

O.k. good point maybe I overlooked the fact that the person wanting to be physical could potentially harm you & your loved ones for no reason(a drunk, maniac or so on). You know what I meant, sorry if I was too vague.

I'm thinking that the poster is in a high school situation.

Moved to AE.

If you're really concerned about being in a fight, carry a blade.

Fighting outside of a ring is pretty dumb. I'd only be compelled to fight if friends, family or own life was threatened. In which case I'd have no compunctions against bleeding his(or her, lol) ass all over the pavement.

If you're fighting to look cool, tough or to protect your ego....Then mabye you do need a thorough ass-pounding to teach you a lesson.

Tell the kid to f*ck off or you'll piss on his grave.

I've only been in two fights, the first I got my ass handed to me no excuses...The second I slammed his face against a fence post, it ended pretty quickly after that.. Point being... Little boys fight when they can, men fight when they must. Which one are you?
