Who's Jack? Did you guys just arbitrarily give the unnamed narrator a name
While Norton and Pitt both are Tyler, Norton is referred to as Jack(in the credits too) because he always says things like "I am Jack's smirking revenge".

DJing contest. Pitt vs. Reeves.

Pitt no contest I'm thinking. He was banging Jennifer Aniston.

Ah, roger that...He's just reading little Hiku's and stuff when he refers to Jack, so I think it would have been better to leave the narrator nameless, or simply say "Narrator - Edward Norton" in the credits. Whatever, though...I [luckily] don't work for Hollywood.

I never liked Brad Pitt until I saw the movie "Fight Club" (my favorite film of all time, BTW), but now, along with Edward Norton, he is one of my favorite actors.

Anyways, long time no see... I've been too busy to post here for a while. It looks like I might actually be getting married pretty soon. Nice to see that some of you guys are still hanging around keeping this place alive.

Well, keep it up.

^ congrats, bud...

I agree with what you said about Brad Pitt...Given, I was like 16 when this movie came out and hadn't seen many of his movies, I'd always hear about how much women dig him and how awesome he is and thought he sucked. Then I saw Se7en and this movie, which changed my mind.

Se7en is in my top 10. Same directory as Fight Club :D

I feel like a big dork because my 2 favorite actors(Pitt & Norton) as well as my favorite actress(Helena Bonham Carter, the only quality one in terms of acting and looks) are all in the same movie.

Seriously though, Fight Club is a good movie. Really makes you think if you've been emasculated by society.

Just watched it again, haha, 6th or 7th rule of fightclub is "no shirts or shoes when fighting". Doesnt "Bob" (the dude with tits) wear a shirt when he is fighting?

lol, just thought I would point that out cause I wanted to see some man titties!

fight club is for men, while bob is not a real man (he acts like a woman, mostly due to testicles' amputation), so he doesn't have to respect fight club's rules:

1. he talks about fight club (1st and 2nd rule: you do not talk about fight club)
2. he keeps fightin with the narrator, even though he taps on his shoulder (3rd rule: someone yells stop, goes limp, taps out, the fight is over)
3. he wears his shirt (6th rule: no shirt, no shoes)

if you think about it, everybody breaks at least one of fight club's rules, with the exception of tyler durden (who's portrayed as the manliest guy)

just my opinion about it, could be wrong

welcome to my world
i know this thread was started a long time ago, but...

...just watched fight club...again.

i love this movie. i was actually searching the forum for more of the movie's quotes, because there are some others that i want to have so i can read them when i need to.

especially the one when pitt and norton are in the hotel at the end, and pitt says something like "i'm everything you want to be" (something along those lines). guess i'll run a google for it.

anyway, i'll add my 2 cents. first, what squirrels said because he was on spot. and second, i think one thing a few may have mentioned but left out is how much confidence and 'not-give-a-****' attitude this guy, Durden, had. above all, this guy had no fear. again, somewhat like what squirrels said, everyone of us has that inner character/voice that's repressed due to today's societal conditioning, and we need to let it out in order to truly live.

by the way, i noticed:

congrats dude.

*just editing my post here...i found the quotes i was looking for:

"without pain, without sacrafice, we would have nothing"

and this one, not because of the twist, but because it reminds me of that inner character that i should be more of:

"all the ways you wish you could be, that's me. i look like you wanna look, i **** like you wanna ****, i am smart, capable, and most importantly, i am free in all the ways that you are not...people do it everyday, they talk to themselves, they seem themselves as they would like to be, but they don't have the courage you have to just run with it. naturally, you are still wrestling with it, so sometimes, you're still you. other times, you imagine yourself watching me. little by little, you're just letting yourself become...Tyler Durden."

the book is very powerful, moreso than the film. however, i'm not really sure if i like the idea of the book or not anymore. durden certainly has the right confident mindset, a product of believing with total conviction in something. The thing that he believes in however, is totally fvcked up - self improvement's for the weak while self-destruction is great? ye, whatever you say santos. The DJ way of life is constant self-improvement. That's how you become stronger; not by destroying yourself

I didn't see the film when it came out thinking it would be just another brainless hollywood movie.

How wrong was I.

The movie has many levels, each person discovers about themselves what they are ready to learn.

That's partly why if you watch it again you will discover something else to ponder over.

For instance many people will pick up on the 'conspicuous consumption' message whilst others may relate to the shop assistant with a gun to their head, known in the trade as 'terror management theory'.

If you watch it enough times I'm sure one day you will transcend all needs and wants.

I liked brad pitt in snatch I thought his character was bad ass and funny.

Fight Club was awsome too, but believe me when I say Palahniuk has some even crazier and far out things swimming in his mind just waiting to surface. Read his book haunted and you'll see exactly what I mean.

Tyler is a rude arrogant dikc, who treats his ONE dirty ho like sh*t. He has no respect for anything and lives in a dirty little shack!! He is a no hoper, like any other junkie you see around.
How come this guy sounds exactly like me but I've never had people worshipping me?

It is actually a DJ movie.

Watch the movie again. This time, pay particular attention to Marla's interaction with both Pitt and Norton.

Pay attention to Norton's AFC mistakes when interacting with Marla. He supplicates all over the place. But his redemption was, he didn't chase her, in fact, he forgot about her after getting her number. She ended up calling him.

Then notice the contrast with Pitt's interaction.
You'll notice when Pitt goes to pick up Marla from her suicide attempt... how much does he say? Is he fun? Is he funny? Is he confident? He assumed the sale: where did they go directly after? Straight to Tyler's house for sex.

At one point Marla has a fit that demonstrates how women absolutely love drama and the emotional roller coaster:

"You love me, you hate me, you fvck me, you snub me. I don't ever know who I'm talking to anymore: Dr. Jekyll, or Mr. Jackazz"

There are more examples.

But the bottom line is, Marla is kept guessing and wondering about the Durden/Jack combo = attracted. Neither of them tell Marla about "themself", so, the Durden/Jack combo is mysterious = attraction. Furthermore, Marla gets the best of both worlds; the Durden/Jack combo balances and gives equal portions nice guy/jerk = more attraction.

Put on a bus? Then the bus shows up for the fireworks? The drama! The mystery! The excitment! The emotion! SMOOooooth.

These examples, in addition to the points previously illustrated, are why Fight Club is indeed a well rounded DJ movie.

I have no idea why you guys are analyzing the men/men interaction when trying to determine "Is Fight Club a DJ movie?". I don't know about you guys, but I'm not trying to pick up guys.

I really don't understand why so many ppl like this movie so much. It has like a cult following and I didn't think it was that special. It has a unique idea I'll give it props for that I hate it when hollywood spues out basically the same movie with a different title. But I though it was just like a glorified frat with goals set on destruction.

I don't see how its DJ material either. I mean only girl you see Brad Pitt/Durden get with is that nasty chick. I guess it shows the don't give a **** attitude and how AFC guys can be, even towards other guys, everyone on Durdens jock.

I dunno I just don't see why so many ppl are so passionate about it. Thoughts?
Couldn't agree more.
