I dont think most young people idolize the movie because it shows we are dependent on material things.

I believe it's the concept that people have fallen in love with. The concept is the split characters, one man who lives in fear and another who does what he pleases.

If he wasn't such a menace than perhaps you would view the message differently.

He looks bad ass, he's a leader, he's intelligent (and full of great quotes), he's mysterious, and he'll have sex with your girlfriend (then ask if you want to finish her up). He's pretty much what DJs strive to be.
