Holland - Serbia & Montenegro

1-0

Van der Sar and Robben played a great match.
The defense isn't that solid though. Ruud didn't do that well either. But we had a lot of ball possesion and won even with a German guy as referee :p

Holland's gonna win this one!!
I hope so! If they do, I win $1300! I bet 100 on them to win at 13 to 1.

They have a solid team this year, with that x factor in Robben (who I think, barring his damn hamstring injuries), might be the best player on the planet in the next couple of years!

Shezz, I see what you mean, Lucio does do well going forward, he is not just a specialist defender, but he is as solid as hell at the back. I have rarely ever seen him stuff up. I think he is a great defender (and to me ever, means in the last 3 world cups)! I havent been around long enough to watch enough footage of the older great players. But I know Ronaldinho also agrees and thinks Lucio is a GREAT defender (then again, he is biased towards his own countrymen)!

I also agree, GREAT start to the tournament!

Czech looked mighty impressive, Nedved was the general, an incredible player! One to watch in the tournament, I think they will get past Italy also, leaving Italy the honour of playing Brazil in a second round clash! ha ha, suck **** to the boring Italians! Too bad about Koller, hopefully as you say, Baros is ready to make his mark!

I think Guus fukced up with Australia also, Kewell should have been on the left wing, where he has space to move! Chipperfield looked aweful running up that wing and loosing the ball! Cahill and Aloisi should also have come on earlier. Viduka should not be playing up there by himself, and he should not be chasing those long balls! That is like using Ruud to chase long balls for the dutch instead of Robben. Would be disastrous! And that goal was a joke! Even the ref apologised afterwards and said that the linesman should have seen it! Too bad if it comes down to GD, although I think Australia will be safe! Either way, the result was fair, Australia dominated that game and are getting better with every successive world cup! Oh, and WTF was Emerton doing in the middle of the park!

I think France will beat Switzerland 1-0, better than they could do in qualifying! Brazil 3-0 over Croatia, and Togo V South Korea (who cares!), none are going anywhere!

Oh and you poms have a great defender, Ferndinand is the man!

Oh and one last thought, how about the USA with those whiteboards? ha ha ha ha ha, this is not the NFL or the NBA! That sh*t was too funny!

what about rosisky in the czech match? In my opinion he was the star of the match and his goal was an absolute clinker! his first one that was! Good buy for Arsenal!!!

Togo just scored against south korea! 1-0 not a bad match so far

Yeah he was good also, the first strike was fizzing! Definately a good spot for Arsenal, before his price skyrockets! But I think it was Nedved who controlled it and held it all together!

Yeah, Togo will beat Korea I think.

Croatia really held its own today against Brazil. Some fancy foot-work definitely by the Croatians. But, alas Brasil won 1-0. Keep in mind, Brasil didn't lose any games in the 2002 world cup.

Croatians definitely looked like they were putting up a good fight, I dunno what you think but I was impressed how close that game was to Brazil, A good game overall.....F'in Ronaldo just walked around the whole game, what was wrong with him?? He didn't even try except for that one shot.

the problem was they refused to deliver great shots on target. I bet could easily have won the game had they strick hard and tested the kipper's abililities.

I hope the U.S. fares better against the Italians on Saturday. We've got to.

The match against the Czechs was just pathetic. The team had NO hussle, and they kept running the ball in the opposite direction they needed to. They let the Czechs completely dominate the mid-field game.

No way -their defence just isnt good enough. Very Very poor in fact, school boyish against Costa Rica. They will have to improve against Poland tomorrow.

Sarge On...
Yep, the German defence SUCKS! But I think that has to do with Klinsman, he is tryin to push the defence up and play 4 straight, I think he should use a sweeper and deepen the defence. Klinsman was surely a great great player (my favourite for many years, before Shearer, then Henry took over), but he doesnt appear to be a great coach. Although Germany does look dangerous going forward!

On other notes:

South Korea and Togo looked VERY ordinary! I will be surprised if any makes it out of the group.

France and Switzerland was boring as hell, very technical, but after the first half, I had enough! Henry pulled a couple of good moves, and Zidane put through a couple of great long balls, but WTF was Henry shooting at, an empty net? Gotta put more fiz on that ball if you want to score, he looked like he was trying NOT to score by shooting so softly!

Havent watched Brazil match yet, going to watch it now. Taped it, :(

Tonight, I hope Spain can beat Ukraine, about time they had a good world cup! Hopefully we see an Alonso trademark long-ball, if he even makes it on the paddock! I predict 1-1.

Gemany will beat Poland 2-1, and Tunisia over Saudi 2-0.

Hopefully Tunisia can get the first win for the african nations, they are the one I truly beleive may make it out of the group stage! They play very good football from the matches I have watched of them lately! But Spain and Ukraine will be formidable opponenets!

Oh, and whats with FIFA awarding man of the match to the damn goalscorers all the time! Sure they did contribute (a goal is a huge contribution), and some of them played great matches, but there were other standout players on the field, hopefully the golden ball award doesnt become a trend with the golden boot "shoe" award and someone win both!

Maybe, but surely not against Costa Rica, surely Klinsman saw the game and knows were to improve. They still have a lot of time to improve...

Brazil - Croatia
Brazil won but I still was very disappointet by their performance. They can (and must) do a lot better. Also their defense didn't look that stable. A team with a good offense might have good chances to score against Brazil.
The Brazilian team and their performance reminded me of the World Cup 1994: not pretty to watch but it gets the job done.

I was really surprised by the Croation team. I think it is always hard to predict their performance at the World Cup (as it is with most Eastern European teams) because either they suck really bad or they kick ass. There is just nothing in between. Croatio is definately good for a few surprises this world cup.

Any yes, German defence sucks big time. However, as long as we score more goals than the opponent I don't care much. I actually like the way Klinsmann wants the German team to play: it is way more lifely and not the boring, disciplined "lets play around the penalty area for another hour" - football that Vogts or Völler taught them. :cheer: :woo:

Germany Is The Winner Of This World Cup
I was rooting for Poland to kick those Germans' asses, but they came close. Poland's goal tender did a great job and if that dumbass did not get a red card at the 75th minute.....maybe the game would of ended in a tie.

Klose is good, but he is a traitor. I am sure the Polish fans despise him. I know he is half Polish, half German...but for Christ's sake he was born in Poland and spent the first eight years (important developmental years) in Poland. Poland could use a player like him

I was worried that Klose and Podolski would not play hard against Poland... they seems to miss some easy shots. But in the end the German substitutes came out and scored the win, so all is well that ends well I guess.

But I doubt Germany will make it to the final.

Anyone have a video of the Germany v Poland game of the attempt of a goal by Germany in the 90th minute of play? It was ridic. Germany was offsides, so they didn't get it, but it was fantastic to see how many times it went back and forth. And I'm not talking about the actual goal at 90 + 1, the attempt a minute before that.

Watched the Brazil match, I thought it was a good kick off to the tournament for them, they created more opportunities and got the job done, against probably the hardest team in the group (though Australia would be very close to them).

Germany easily outplayed Poland and deserved their win!

I think England will win rather easily tonight, a comfortable 2-0 win. England should top the group (very important to avoid playing Germany in the second round, as Germany looks as if they are going to top their group also, leaving England probably with Ecuador, a team they should get past). Although will be interesting to see who else makes it, if Paraguay can hold Sweden to a draw tonight, they will be favourites to go through to the next round you would think, a relatively easy second round match for Germany.

Second round has some hard matchups though, Portugal probably against Argentina or Holland, and Czech or Italy against Brazil, a very very hard second round match!
