I've always been inclined to use weapons form as a method of exercise and fitness. Recently I've been thinking alot about fencing. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of the subject and the benifits it provides. I'm thinking mostly about sabre and (if it's taught) cutlass.

Does anyone have any experience in the feild? Any tips pointers and knowledge would be helpful.

cutlass is not taught

sabre is real hard and fast and complicated and expensive

foil is for poofs :p - i mean who wants to use a training weapon competitively.

epee is a genius weapon, first hit = the point. Plus u get really big strong swords so u can hurt your opponent :p, although of course, thats not the aim.

It skews up the muscle distribution on your legs. The muscle on one (i think its normally the back) tends to get bigger as you are using it for propulsion and pushing.

good for CV fitness

I've taken kendo in the past, in fact I've taken quite a few japanese weapons forms.

Thanks for the advice JSH! I still think I want to give sabre a shot but I'd better start with foils first. Bonus epee, I'll be sure to look into that further and give it some serious concideration. Nothing like channeling anger in a positive way to make yourself stronger.
