Looking for some advice from fellow guys living in major metro centers. I've been living away for work for some time now. It was over the course of that contract that I really internalized all of this great advice on here and became a DJ with frequent success with women.

Back in the city I'm noticing a significant problem - and I call it significant because day game is 80% of my game. Outside of the city if I saw a pretty girl walking down the street I'd make eye contact, when she looked I would smile and say hi. Sometimes they'd keep walking, but I got quite a few dates from those who stopped to chat.

Now that I'm back downtown, girls just keep looking straight ahead. I guess it's logical - when you live in a big city you are used to avoiding eye contact with all the crazies downtown. But now I can't even get a glance in my direction so that I can disarm them with a smile and say hello.

What do you guys do?

I'm not from a big city or anything. But surely a low risk, high response opener would be to ask for directions to someplace. I remember a guy posting about it a while back and he seemed to get quite a few results. Once the ice was broken and things were looking positive he'd sometimes come clean and say:

'Look, I couldn't think of another way to get your attention, I thought you looked pretty cool, and I guess, I guess I just wanted to say hi and see if I was right'

Something similar to that effect.

Seems like it would work. And if it doesn't go too well you can always eject after they have given you directions.

Just an idea.

It's all about how you look and how much money you have. You either don't have the necessary look to you, or you present yourself poor.

If you ride a bus to work or metro you must dress like an important businessman.

If you have a car, then that car must be something cool, like Mercedes, or Cadillac. Then how you dress isn't as important.

Basically you must create a first impression where you are a rich handsome guy. Check the way you dress, all the details, starting from your shoes. Analyze the way you travel. Perhaps you are taking a bus straight from ghetto. Perhaps it's best to create an impression you coming from a rich neighborhood.

Ah, backseat, I do believe you are right... The issue is that I work in the arts. One of the perks is that I don't have to dress like a stuffy wall street guy. I'd say my day to day look is closer to Hank Moody in californication. Over time I've upgraded my wardrobe so that, even as I dress casually, they are nice-looking, expensive clothes.

Will need to build up more of that, though, because other times I'm sure I can look like a college student in my t-shirt and shorts.

T-shirt and shorts, by the way, is my summer uniform. Sorry, but it gets freaking hot. Especially if you walk and bike everywhere.

It's almost impossible for me to meet women on the street in Manhattan. I have much better odds inside coffee places, bars, stores, etc. Most women will avoid eye contact completely on the street here.
