Expanding my social circle in college

Dude.. I know you're very into working out now.. but seriously, I would just go out and drink til you get comfortable talking to anyone. Half the time when I go out I end up hanging out with people I hadn't met before and meeting people there.. Most people are friendly I think. Especially in a college town on a weekend night. That is the simple solution but go for it man!

Well when I go out it seems like everyone is in their group and isn't really open to talking to anyone who isn't in their group. (Which always confused me, what's the point of going out if you just hang out with the people you're going out with? You can do that at home for free ). How do you infiltrate the groups?

Also, how am I supposed to go out to bars/clubs/parties by myself? I will just be seen as that creepy guy who's not in a group. It takes friends to make friends so I feel like I just don't have the initial resources to even start meeting people.
