When reading pooks post it bought one thing to mind, an interview I read from an 85 year old lady. I have a poster of this interview in my toilet and next to my computer, so I am reminded of it on a daily basis.

Here is what she said:

"If I had my life to live over, I'd try to make more mistakes next time. I would relax...........I would be sillier than I have been on this trip. I know of very few things I would take seriously........ I would be less hygienic. I would take more chances. I would climb more mountains, swim more rivers and watch more sunsets. I would eat more ice cream and less beans. I would have more actual problems and fewer imaginary ones.

You see, I am one of these people who live seriously and sanely, hour after hour, day after day. Oh, I have had my moments, and if I had it to do over again, I'd have more of them. In fact, I'd have nothing else. Just moments, one after another, instead of living so many years ahead of each day. I have been one of those people who never go anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a gargle, a raincoat and a parachute. If I had it to do over again, I would travel lighter........I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way until later into the fall. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I'd pick more daisies.

(From an interview with an 85 year old woman from the hill country of Kentucky)

It is just lucky for some of us we get to realise such things at a young age, and not have to be 85 (sitting around, simply contemplating our already lived lives), until we see the light of youth.

Nice. I really like this line.
I would have more actual problems and fewer imaginary ones.

True. But like all great tips, easier said then done. Much easier.

The point made by the 85 year old woman is correct. You learn more from making mistakes, than you do in avoiding them. However, the point is not to make mistakes that you know are mistakes out of laziness or lack of preparation. The kind of mistakes I believe she was referring to are those that you don’t know are mistakes, and from which you gain critical life experience.

Part of me believes that a planned life is not worth living. However, another part of me realizes that there are some advantages to predictability, namely, financial, physical and psychological stability. Living every day of your life to make so-called “good mistakes” is a great idea, but you still need to have a roof over your head and food on the table. Thus, some amount of life planning is necessary.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

Yeah to really get ahead in life you have to have a compass, a direction and clear goals.

On the other hand we all search for a balance. I am happy when I'm busiest and most motivated, but also value my downtime which allows me to read other things I'm interested in and relax.

^^ The same is with me Ricky.
When I'm busy, doing things I need to do to improve myself and enjoying life, I feel good and strong.
When I leave my life behind, she hit's me in the back of the head with a brick and calls me an ******* ;) .

Hey... when you are about to "go gently into that good night," you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the things you did.
