I was a broadband Manager for America Online back when they were in the high speed arena and I had to fire a man of different color than I due to his constant "slamming" of members. Slamming is when you do not get the member's permission to be transferred to a special queue for member specials and benefits. Techs would get $1 per successful transfer. He was slamming them in the middle of a troubleshoot and I caught him.

Needless to say he threw the race card out there. However, I am much too clever to have that thrown at me and I put each of his slams on disc and provided them at the hearing from Human Reources.

He shut his hole then and walked out with his tail tucked tightly between his thighs.

Slamming

I use to be in telecom and I was with a startup so that how I learnt of slamming. Buddy signed up a tonne of people by slamming. Back in the dot com era, they built this telecom via 2 ways, by slamming people, giving them a better rate, then BS'ing them about a buyout why the bill is in a new name. The other thing they did was send out a tonne of press releases to make everything look rosy & then expanded by doing a bunch of buyouts of smaller companies based on their BS PR growth.

Needless to say, the guys are now in the caribean where they got set up thanks to the quick cash they made and have now gone on to new ways of making dollars. The dot com era made a lot of people rich & also erased alot of wealth for other people.

Sometimes I get a private roofing job that I will do on a weekend or something, so I need to hire a couple of dudes to help out.
I hired this one kid. and boy what a friggin mistake.. First he was an hour late, shows up in a pair of shorts and complains that I didn't tell him that there was a ton of roofing cement all over the place(the owner patched shingles with roofing tar) and his legs got tar on them, lol. He constantly had to answer his cell phone, and it was pissing me off, throwing cigarette butts all over even though I told him not to, and basicly he was the laziest freakin person I ever met.

This kid thought he was going to make 300 dollars that weekend just to sit on his ass, because it was a private, no pressure job or something.
Pfffttt.. In the afternoon, I told him to go home and do not show up Sunday.
He demanded a 100 bucks, so I gave him a hundred bucks to just get away from me.... I was about to kill him, lol.

After he left, I went down and cleaned up all the cigarette butts he tossed about before the building owner got back.. Friggin moron.

Firing is hard, thank god for the warning system and the "shape up or get out" lecture!

I used to find it hard to fire women, it seemed so unjustified as they had their "reasons". Realized i was being unfair and sexiest, so i fired the laziest pretty girl in history. Her profession was to look pretty and file her nails.

God did the guys hate for that one! Haha! Front desk will never be the same again, it's much better now.

I can't stand having to tell people what to do. I hate having employees, on the rare occasion I have had them. Plus, I like keeping all of the money for myself.

I have known guys who seem to get off on how many people they employ. They'll spent all of their profits hiring new people so they can brag about how many guys they get to boss around.

Heh, there was a period before Christmas where I was handing out formal (written) warnings and firing employees left and right. It was kinda funny that I had to fire a dude on my first day as manager.

Well actually I don't really fire employees, I only recommend HR to fire them. I tell the employee to contact HR so they can have a "talk", and 99.9% of the time they get fired.

i've had to fire a couple of people back in the day. I fired one guy because he was basically freak in training... he could not get any work done because he was looking at woman's feet all day long. and I mean literarly STARING at them. it's bad when it's ovbious. plus he wasn't the smartest cookie on earth either. Just told him we had to go in a different direction

One guy had a drinking problem and I tried to cut him some slack; i had actually been out with him before drinking so I couldn't be a hypocrite.. the problem was at 2am I'd go home and be at work at 8, he'd go to the strip club to get more beer and come to work smeeling like an Extension Level Event 2 hours late.

2 employees get into a fight.
one has been there 25 yrs and is the supervisor, the other a mere 3.
the supervisor wants to fire the "helper" but the "helper" threatens physical violence and bodily injury to the supervisor.
i am their boss, and my boss tells me to separate them and try to get "helper" to go to another site to work, as he is a hard worker but wants to run the joint and is pining to be supervisor.
i talk to "helper" and tell him he must obey the supervisor and can not threaten him, he continues to threaten to me that he will kick the other guys butt and begs me to fire him so he can collect unemployment, and then tells me to put on my firing pants to fire the supervisor and hire him some help.

he was pretty angry when i said, our company no longer needs your services and we are letting you go now, please give me your keys.

he went around telling non employees (residents) about it, left and came right back in 5 minutes to barge in and demand to fill out a time sheet because his attorney said so, i allowed him to fill one out, but he demands we pay him for a half a day and says we are going to pay him for a half a day because he had to come to work.

he left again only to barge back in to cuss at me, threaten the supervisor's butt again , tell me it is not over and firing him is illegal unless he has 3 write ups.

who cares, angry disgruntled ex employee? you can not get unemployment for insubordination and violent threats to your supervisor in front of your boss. you can not become indian chief, for you are an injun!!

my boss will not be paying him for 4 hours, she has permission from her boss to pay him for the half an hour that he was there before i fired him this morning.

Yup I hired a girl who interviewed as very bright and enthusiastic/high energy. (Hire for attitude - train for skill).

2 weeks into the job she didn't show up.

I waited

one hour..
two hours...
three hours...

and I got worried about her and called her on her cell and asked if she was okay?


Her response: "Shhh... I am in bed with my boyfriend and I don't want him to wake up. Hey listen, I stayed up late partying last night so I can't help you out today... but I can help you out tomorrow."

I told her I looked forward to seeing her the next day.

She came in the next day.

I told her I "didn't need her to help me out anymore", gave her pay that was due her and thanked her for the time she spent working for me.

It was all very civil. She was pretty speechless.

It always amazes me how many people just never show up for a new job. That and how many people will work a few days and never come back in. I work at a medical facility and there is a high rate of that.

You would think people in a professional office setting who make good wages would be professional enough to give at least a little notice.

Caught one stealing with a hidden camera sting one time. The FBI would have been proud. Then this whining little b!tch has the nerve to bring his DAD in the next day to ask me why i fired his son.

Do people have NO shame?
