I think that there is a growing disease that I see in American society, one that is consuming it slowly. The disease of victimhood. This disease is replacing integrity and self-respect, with weakness and fragility. The main reason for my dislike of feminism, and a number of other “victimhood” movements is mainly because it is the vector and incubator of this disease. I think that this disease has festered so far that it is now a part of the very society that we live in, if not defining of the society itself.
Let me explain… In our current society the victim has power. If you do not see this as being a fact, then you are blind. These victims show that they are victimized. They do this even if they are not actual victims. They will do this even to very minor slights, even if they are just perceived and not actual. Through this display of victimization, they gain pity and petition to the strong to that they must be given power. Thus, people gain power through weakness. They gain political power, social power, personal power over others, and more. By identifying as a victim you are not making a display of weakness, you are instead gaining power over others. Thus, they have nothing to gain by empowering themselves… For if they did such, they would lose their position as the victim and all the strength that they hold over it. When power is drawn from a position of weakness instead of strength, that is a dysfunctional juxtaposition of natural law. It is also dysfunctional to society itself. In nature weakness is preyed upon, and the weak learn to be strong or they shall not survive. Just the same, society and civilization does not thrive on weakness and victimhood, it is the strong who rise above their station and who empower themselves that move it forward.
Instead of seeing power as earned, they instead see privilege. Instead of working to improve their lives they instead cry about how unfair the world is to them. Instead of rising up from victimhood, instead of taking on the unfairness of life head on and rising above it they instead desire to fall deeper into victimhood and wallow in it.
I am not saying victims do not exist… Some people are truly victims, there can be such circumstances. But I would hope that they would not seek to remain one, and would instead seek to empower themselves past their victimhood. What I am saying is that we live in a society that is promoting victimhood, and that some people no longer seek to be empowered but to instead be the victim.
How can we cure this disease?
