If you read "The Game" and noticed Courtney Love in the book (One of the biggest rock stars of the 90s, especially after marrying Kurt Cobain) even she was getting hounded for her debt that she owed.
Just because you're a star and get recognized on television doesn't mean that you are financially secure and making millions. Media industry just likes to exploit eccentric figures.
I've played in a variety of bands, done some extensive touring, and had albums released on pretty stable indie labels. I'm still broke.. Been ripped off by labels and ripped off everywhere imaginable under the sun of the music industry. It's ruthless, but with those experiences you get smarter.
On another note, yeah most musicians are AFC. I know from first hand experience. A lot of the bands mine plays with fall into the "emo" category when it comes to lyrical content and song structure. Some of these guys pull the hottest girls too, hell I even pull pretty hot girls yet I'm still a virgin and make stupid mistakes to drive the girls away from me. Most artists in general, whether it be music, art, film.. Anything are very emotional people. Which makes their songwriting genius eventually.
Most girls don't want to be in a relationship with a musician who hits the road a few months out of the year too.. Not enough time for them and there's always a huge chance of cheating (to her).
EDIT: The music industry has gotten even tougher with rising gas prices (touring + transportation to gigs + fans driving out to gigs) and the internet (downloading albums).. I tell ya man.. It's ruthless! But if you want it enough anyone can make it happen.
