I find that interesting, because I had similar thoughts a while back. But I came to the conclusion, that I wouldn't want an army of this kind of people to be out in the world, in the power of killing other people. They've shown that they make bad decisions, they have no remorse and show no understanding of basic principles such as "empathy", "peace" and reasoning. Jail is what they deserve. Jail and remorse for a long, long time.

Sickening, sad, and despressing. What is worse is not they beat her up, but the idea that they have no conscience. No empathy or compassion or value to the girl. They cared more about that self than a human and was only thinking about "missing practice" and "not able to go to the beach" when they were arrested. They have no idea the horror they committed.

I don't mind a fair school yard fight if you really need to settle something. There are better ways, but hey... But inviting someone to your home, ganging up on them, then beating them even after they pass out is just sick.

It's good that they are sitting in jail...damn good. This is a great way to show other kids, and adults for that matter, that going over the top like this will get you no place.

I understand getting into fights, and yes kids will fight, but man.... I can't believe they went this far... They are lucky that girl didn't get killed, however I bet the parents will take legal action on those girls and they're families..

This has just started for these girls.. this is gonna go on for years.. legal crap, law suits, lawyers, discrimination.... Yeah they will tell themselves that it wasn't worth it... and that is exactly what the judge should show them. Hopefully this will be an example for other kids thinking about doing wrong..

I hope when this is all said and done, that those girls wiil do the right thing and befriend the girl they almost killed ...

yeah of course it has gone on before... but this time they were dumb enough to tape it...and we got to see it. I'm glad this happened.... and that the judge and society will put all of them through the ringer... Show other kids that this not acceptable, and will get you know where.

I've see girls fight at school, and I think girl fights are a lot natier than guys fighting.. A girl will not let up at all, lol.. these girls carried it to far.. they almost killed that girl... and two of them watched the door outside and the others watched...as a girl gets beaten ...

They are criminals, and should be delt with like criminals.. this was not a schoolyard fight.

I'll say now that not all people are good, but in my personal life I give people an honest chance to be decent. I expect most people in my life to be decent, and they usually are. The ones that cross that line usually don't last long with me.

The point is I don't approach life with a mindset of "people are bad", and it's worked well for me so far. The key to not getting trampled with this mindset is to have high self-respect. Somebody crosses you, and you toss them out of your life so fast their ass doesn't even touch the ground.

I think that the video is bad, but far from the worst beating I've seen online.

The girls are bad for beating up a girl talking sh!t about them and hopefully the judicial system will deal with them accordingly, but everyone is hoping that these girls really 'get what's coming to them' in this thread, ranging from being murdered to posting personal information to harass them. Aren't you guys just keeping the cycle of senseless violence/intimidation in motion?

Also, why do people assume that this is the first time something like this has happened in the history of mankind and lose 'faith' in human kind. Just because you finally saw it happen with your own eyes does not mean it hasn't happened and been happening for centuries.

To clarify my position nor do I.

Nor do I approach life believing people are good.

I do however approach life with the mindset that people are motivated by self interest and nothing else.

Humanist continually lobs insults at me calling me a "sophist" for this reason but to be a sophist one must make fallacious arguments or fallacious arguments which appeal to the crowd based on emotion to sway the crowd's opinion which I do not make surrounding this issue.

I use logic and sound reasoning to make my points.

I would argue that instead it is "the people are good" side that most often appeals to and makes emotional arguments in support of their position here.

To claim humanity is either intrinsically good or evil brings religious magical thinking into the equation as well as blind faith which is of course outside the realm of logic and reason.

I posted my comment near the beginning of this thread not to claim that I'd somehow "won" as humanist put it but to show that the religious magical "people are inherintly good" thinking that has been propped up on this forum for some time now is not at all correct.

People are not inherintely good or evil, good or bad, we are all merely advanced animals with ever changing and evolving self interests.

For simplicities sake its alright to call someone who has the same self interests as you do "good" when they benefit your life thanks to those interests, just as its alright for simplicities sake to call someone "bad" when they don't benefit your self interest by their actions and behaviour.

Without the religious implication placed on the words they become suitable descriptors to identify what appeals to your self interest and what doesn't.

I view myself as a moral human being so its in my self interest to deplore these girl's behaviour.

I might even call it "bad" behaviour but again my use of the word "bad" is different than the people are good crowds use of it as my use of it has no religious application and is merely a descriptor.
