Hi I dont know how many people on here live in the UK but I do and I was watching EastEnders (its a british soap opera for all you US people) and Alfie and Nana Moon were chatting -

Alfie: "Nana, why do women always go for men who treat them like dirt?"
Nana: "Why because all the nice ones are boring, Alfie Darling"

I really hope that alfie and kat dont get together.. its watching sh*t like that that reinforced some of my AFC traits as a teenager,

as long as you're really really good friends shes bound to fall in love with you, the TV says so.

lets hope kat has categorised alfie permanently in the friendzone and that alfie realises this and decides to move on..

enough giving AFCs false hope TV!!

Your right, it defies convention of real life. Why should they get together just because they are good friends. I think this one should end a little more realistically and he shouldnt get the girl

We should do a critque of all the main characters in British soaps (well, especially Corrie and Eastenders), and we can analyse what they do right each episode and what they do wrong.

Spencer is a classic to learn from, don't you think.

NO ONE in Eastenders is a DJ except maybe the me one who is the American's brother.

Watching Eastenders is like a fest of mr.nice guy - i saw the episode where after trying to chat up this one girl, spencer failed and was basically mr.nice guy.


Everyone felt sorry for him (a.k.a mr nice guy) except for the fit blonde who seemed to forgive him straigt away and then shag him!!!!



Sometimes I count my blessings (sosuave.com) - some people actually try to learn romantic techniques from s-hit like that!


That blonde though, she'd get it up the ass

notice hollyoaks may be runing a similar storyline with max and mandy, although this time I think they are going to opt for mandy not being interested at all..

be interesting to see if she opts for the "cruel to be kind" behaviour of ignoring him as much as possible, and his heart is broken or if they brush it all under the carpet and everything is back to normal after 2 episodes

i watched it a couple of sundays ago or so, and ther was this lush as f-uck blonde with massive tits.

True. and the director seems to appreciate thats the reason theyve got more than half of the audience interested, hence all the blatant clevage shots going on all the time.. its almost like a british baywatch!

Back to soaps and the friendzone, Neighbours now.. notice how darcy may have busted himself out of it with Dee today , although you can tell its all going to end in tears for darstardly darcy, hes being portrayed as the villain (cos of using dirty tactics) again though soaps never seem to do the getting over the girl you cant have storyline, it just miraculously happens for them, I guess it doesnt make for entertaining tv.

so, its happened... for no apparent reason at all, kat has suddenly decided she's madly in love with alfie after spending the last few months trying to help him get a girlfriend..

I'm not saying that never happens in real life, but its not exactly that likely is it? and there are alot of impressionable AFC teenagers out there (like me a few years ago) that will use this as justification to stick it out in the frinedzone holding onto false hopes and throwing away opportunities with other women.. sort it out BBC!! stop reinforcing one-itis (on alfies part) as rewarding behaviour...

Just thought I'd bump this up.

The Kat romance plot has thickened lately with the arrival of this gangland/bad boy type who has managed to pull Kat.

Interestingly he did it with a combination of Jerk/AFC tactics (he is very confident and aggressive, but does afc stuff like spending huge amounts of money on Kat and her family).

Dennis is definitely not a DJ, he is a jerk/player who relies mainly on his looks.

But you can't expect much from Eastenders, it's mainly written by women and so pushes the usual AFC stuff. The lamest plotline ever was when Jamie fell in love with Sonia instead of Zoe. Yeah, like that would ever happen in real life. That storyline must have been written by an ugly woman!

just going back to hollyoaks again, an infinitely better soap but also much more annoying (the new characters suck)..

I thought they handled max's one-itis pretty well, there was the AFC refusal to accept that she didnt love him.. the writing of love poems.. and brilliantly.. the crippling depression that left him lying in his room staring at the ceiling refusing to do anything, plus the intense rage at tony the guy who was getting her attention.. obviously its all gone a bit weird now, with max and ob doing the whole thelma and louise road trip thing.. but for once.. a semi sensible treatment of the hell of one-itis.

I think you can divide Eastenders up pretty easily:

Jerks: Dennis, Phil, that gangster going out with Kat, that asian bloke with the scarred face

AFCs: Martin, Barry (VERY afc - giving his wife a video when she left him begging her to come back) Spencer (totally wet afc, but for some reason women in my office seem to LOVE him).

Potential DJs: Mr Periera, Paul Trueman.

Any others?

I'd stick martin in the jerk rather than AFC category.. spencer probably appeals to the aaahh he's so sweet lets mother him metality in women.

had one of those top 5 birds/blokes chats with some girl mates of mine a while ago..

anyway, from eastenders the resounding winners were Paul Truman and Anthony Truman (now left).. I guess paul is very good at putting across the impression he can show girls a good time

These were not girls that especially go for black guys or anything.. they just liked the characters..

one of the girls liked that new asian kid that is a DJ (music) the other wasnt impressed by him..

what amazes me, is how Tony from hollyoaks manages to get all the fitties.. hes a massive AFC and a total loser, he doesnt have a clue.. nor is he particularly attractive.. soaps.. what a bunch of crap

I had to bump this. Watched 'Eastenders' last night and got really annoyed.

Alfie is such an AFC it is unbelievable!!

Kat invites him round AS A FRIEND to see what he thinks of her wedding dress and he agrees!!!!

Then, when he can't make it because he has to take his poor senile granny to hospital, she has a sh*t fit!

He has to put up with that and he's not even getting any!!!!!

Plus, re the Barry/Janine storyline, I sense another possible 'AFC will get you results in the end' storyline coming up - Janine wants to fleece him for all he's got but is falling in love with him because he says he loves her and treats her like a princess! Yeah right.
