ease of HIV transmission?

Well I did something stupid Monday night. I got it on with a girl on our second date, and used a condom for the vaginal sex, but no barriers were used during oral (both ways). Now I have a sore throat and have managed to convince myself that I "must" have caught HIV from this encounter. I think the fact that it was her time of the month is what concerns me the most, since it seems that would make disease transmission easier.

Has anyone else done something stupid like this? Is HIV so easily transmitted? I am going to be so much more cautious from now on. No matter how good the sex it isn't worth all this worry.

I don't worry if I used a condom during sex and I never have used one when a girl gave me oral. It's when I have a ONS with a biotch and I don't use a condom is when I start to trip. I don't think you have too much cause for concern unless you had a gaping wound on or around your mouth area. You won't be able to tell if you have HIV for about 6 months.

Yeah sometimes I have bleeding gums when I floss, and that happened about 8 hours before this enounter. I am obsessing over that too. I hope they were healed by then.

I think it's these cold-like symptoms that got me nervous. I suppose it could be coincidence, but I wish I could know for certain without having to wait a few months for a definitive test.

I guess let this be a lesson that you shouldn't let your eagerness for sex override rational decision making. I am regretting it now.

As far as i know you wont feel any adverse effects until you develop AIDS, which is usually 10 years after the HIV virus is transmitted.

Dude don't worry about it. The chances of getting HIV from unprotected sex are low as it is. You didn't do this. The chances of getting HIV during Oral sex are next to none. Unless you were physically bleeding from your mouth and she was physically bleeding frlom her vaginal area then there is a very, very, very small chance of this happening. My gums bleed sometimes too. If I kiss a girl who has HIV after I do this will I get it? No. Same with oral sex.

Go have a beer and chill.

Er, yeah. Whatever. It's posts like these that make Health and Fitness so unreliable.

How about 6 months after? Had it been 10 years, we'd all be dead by now.

Sore throat? You probably caught it from her. Your immune system wasn't use to that bug. Her was...

HIV? You're probably ok. But, it's good to be paranoid. That way you'll be safe...

Hope this helps. As seen on sexuality.org

It is clear that the risk of transmitting HIV is much, MUCH lower for unprotected oral sex than for unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, and that the risk is MUCH lower for the person being sucked or licked than for the person doing the sucking or licking. For the person doing the sucking or licking, the risk of transmission is lower if your gums (and lips/mouth/throat) are healthy, if you don't let men come in your mouth, and if you don't perform cunnilingus on a woman while she is menstruating.

Some sex educators recommend NOT flossing or brushing your teeth for an hour before giving unprotected oral sex (use Cool Mint Listerine or some other anti-bacterial mouthwash if you're concerned about bad breath or just want to freshen up), and others recommend quickly looking over the genitals you're about to go down on for obvious signs of contagious STDs (including genital warts, which can on rare occasion be transmitted from genitals to mouth).

haha

this thread made me laff...

you assume you got HIV cause you got a sore throat?? my god.

ok.. as someone pointed out, it can take years for HIV to go to AIDs and a stuffed immune system.

more to watch out for are genital and oral herpes , HEP C, and other STD's..

if there are no obvious signs on the exterior, you should be ok..

the risk of getting something besides those small number of STD's from oral only is quite low.. but some girls do go around with STD's like herpes and don't tell you.. so just have a good look before diving in.
