I think this PUA stuff has now truly posioned my mind.
I saw a guy walking down the street yesterday, dressed like a douchebag.
He was wearing all white, baggy clothes. Bandanas tied around his neck. Skull cap with a white baseball hat on top of his head.

First thing I think is oh, there goes a guy who must be good with women.
Because he was dressed like a moron, following Mystery Method I guess. Dressed to stand out, peacocking and all that.
Before coming here, my first thought would have been "Who the hell is that buffoon?".

Hahahaha, that was funny.

I sometimes think of the same thing when I see idiots like that. I am in a college town so there's plenty of minions of Mystery et. al. here.

There are some guys who truly own their styles, no matter how outlandish. Not just celebrities and psuedo celebrities. If a guy is truly a gearhead, he can get away with wearing plenty of leather and raggy Harley shirts because that's who he is and he wears it on his sleeve. If a guy is a full on nerd, he can wear the t-shirt with the Flash insignia and not give two F's what people think. Guys who are into the rocker lifestyle can don the leather, scarves, long hair, etc. Same goes for hip-hop, dandyism, religious garb, etc., etc.
This goes back to the idea that women like "types". I've heard women say things like "I want a thug, I want a cowboy, I want a country gentleman, I want a sugar daddy, I want a rocker", even "I want a nerd". If you're just a normal guy, you're boring. Or so goes the theory anyway.

I don't know what type this guy I saw in the street was going for. He seemed to be a mix of about five different styles. Painter, rocker, garage mechanic, hip hop guy, and baseball player.

Normal is not boring. Not being dressed like a hiphop idiot simply means that you have a three-digit IQ. Quality women want a man who shows that he also has some quality. Too many men these days behave like children throughout their twenties.

A lot of what's written in those PUA books is there because they need to fill out pages to make it a book. First clue is whenever a "guru" talks about "the pickup community". What the hell is that? Belonging to a "pickup community" means that you have failed, that you need to constantly read, read, read, go to seminars and talk to guys in the same situation to convince yourself that you are cool and will soon succeed. That the PUA "gurus" don't point this out, but encourage it, shows what a racket they're running.

Some say a three digit IQ is a disadvantage when dealing with the bar and club slvts that are the target of the typical PUA program.

Funny how you never hear about situations where being dressed like a circus freak caused the guy to get blown out. You know it had to happen. But rejections don't count as negatives for PUAs, conveniently.

Interesting point. The gurus keep guys hooked by promising to get them to the ever present "next level". Where, I guess, your percentages go up and you are increasingly immune to negative emotions.

I was just recently thinking that I've read about everything there is to read about this pickup stuff. What more is there to absorb? I stick around mostly because I find it interesting.

Firstly, dressing outlandishly or peacocking is an ancient concept, and not a modern PUA invention.

Secondly, the guys who dress up like douchebags aren't going to attract the same type of girls that you do, and they probably aren't trying to. They're probably good with women in their own niche. That's how you should peacock: to the women in your niche, who dig that style.

It's important to have A Look. The basis of physical attraction is going to be conditional for an individual girl. The archetypal "douchebag" with tats and an MMA appeal is a Look. Guyliner, black nail polish and Emo skinnyjeans is a Look. The guy in a 3 piece Armani has a Look, and there are dozens more, but the point is that women are like casting agents looking for the right character to fill a role.

I agree, but take a look at Mystery in the link provided.
What kind of niche is that designed to attract?

It's incredible to think that someone can't grasp the concept of MYSTERY'S CLOTHING.

Look at that picture, do you really think he did that to get girls?

Or are these guys trying to get as much attention as possible, to sell their tours/companies/books/movies ?

Anyone would realize that these are tactics to generate buzz. He is peacocking for HEADLINES in that picture, not the girls. Even they realize that wearing a crocodile skin suit is not the ideal to pick up girls. No-one can wear clown-clothing like that and 'own it', these comments were displays of idiocy Lol.

Do you think Lady Gaga wears ridiculous things because she enjoys it? Or is more about to gain worldwide attention?

There are men's men, such as guys at sons of anarchy. They don't give a **** to what you think or what women think. The real bad boys.

There are ladies men, such as Mystery, and most PUAs. These men use pickup lines, peacocking, and all of those stuff you read here. Their life is to pickup women.

Then there are chumps. Men who have no clue what to do in life, have given up fighting, or just too afraid to live.

The only kind of men who don't get laid are the chumps.

I don't know Rollo, does "A" look really imply "any" look?

Some of these men look so bizarre that it's hard to imagine them conforming to an interesting character sought by a group of women.

Freakishness itself cannot be a strong pivot in attracting women, in my opinion.

Mystery and company, on the other hand, has an enormous amount of fame, charisma and game allowing them the luxury of dressing like clowns.

what do you guys think?

Mystery looks like a Drag Queen Clown! I can't see myself dressing like him. I like the biker/rocker style but here in Brazil is too hot most of the time to dress this way!

I admire your healthy skepticism.
Didn't he come up with this idea of dressing oddly before he became famous though? I guess as an aspiring magician, with an eye toward starting a pickup based business, he could have been trying to create a buzz, as you say.

The principle of trying to stand out from other guys seems solid, but when you look ridiculous it's hard to believe that it helps with girls. Is all that stuff about creating an avatar just BS? What Mystery is wearing there seems to be some sort of stage gear. What kind of stage gear I'm not sure. Glam rock or drag shows, perhaps?

Mystery's targets were what, girls 18-24? Didn't he say that HB10s could only come from that age range? It's certainly hard to imagine a woman much older than high school age being impressed with that kind of dress. If he was in fact wearing that for the girls, he must have been counting on them being very naive and inexperienced.

Mystery is a magician. He dresses like one, and he attracts girls who are into such type. There are lots who are into the entertainer/performer type who are basically freaks in everyone else's eyes.

And yes it's oh so terrible for him to attract hot naive inexperienced girls 18-24... I mean, who the hell would desire them, right?

Seriously are you sure you haven't been brainwashed by feminists?

the point being is you should have your own style to set yourself apart from other guys. mystery's style isn't supposed to appeal to most people. i think it's stupid myself but for him it works and that's what it's about. the concept holds true, it's just up to you to make it work to your liking. we are all in agreement that if we were to look, act, dress, talk like everyone else we wouldn't exactly be standing out now would we?

You essentially upped your VALUE in her eyes by showing her that, if she wants you, she has to at times do things that you like to do. You are SOMETHING after all. You are NOT FREE. If she wants to hang with you, it's going to cost her something — time, effort, money.

now the argument was whether it was Mystery's CLOTHES that made him bang all those girls and you STILL managed to come in and make it about a feminist conspiracy.

You are remarkable, really. I am sure you believe 9/11 was a feminist shaming tactic as well...

Why don't you try to dress like Mystery and go out to a local bar? They might consider hiring you as a visiting clown err, sorry magician, maybe.

You have a serious reading comprehension issue, Boilermaker. We've established that in the previous thread when you argue like an idiot against jophil and the other veterans, so I won't bother explaining to you again.

There are weirdos dressed like idiots all over the place.

Peacocks, buffoons, whatever. Does it really concern you?

Would you really care to attract the same type of women that these guys do?

Probably not so carry on nothing to see here.

As I understand it, he was a wannabe magician.
If a guy wants to be an astronaut, does he wear his spacesuit into the club?
Now what are the other two dressed as?

Never said it was terrible. I just said that it was hard to imagine a girl being impressed with that type of garb unless she was pretty immature.

I was originally considering going to Perdue's Engineering school! I may go there for Graduates School though.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.
