Doing the occasional "nice" thing

What would you guys say is an appropriate "nice" thing to do for your girlfriend every once and a while? I am usually pretty c/f but I know girls like that occasional half-way sappy thing every so often. I thought about flowers, but I just can't help thinking how lame they are. Any ideas?

Also, what do you guys think about letting out the big L word? I know you always wait for her to utter it first, but there has to be some point in time where your relationship will begin to whither if neither one of you has the cajones to come out with it.

This works very well if you can get the balance right. Don't play this game if you don't have the will power for it.

As for the L word:

Don't utter it just because you think it's what you're supposed to do or that it is the "normal" thing to do because you've been out for a while. Don't say it in a moment of passion. Say it when you really feel it and can reason why. Men are logical, woman are emotion.

How long has she been your girlfriend? If it has been enough time that you are very comfortable in the relationship, its fine to treat her from time to time.

If you want to get her flowers, that doesn't have to mean getting her a dozen red roses (red roses=i love you). You can do something simple like pick a few outside and give those to her as just a simple "hey, I found these for you while I was walking in the park earlier." Simple things like that seem pretty effective.

About the love thing... In the last few years of various relationships, I've had it said to me first, and I've said it first. It is essential to say it only when you are absolutely sure, there is no alterior motive (such as trying to keep the relationship), you have felt that way for quite a while, you know she feels the same way. I've had great relationships when I said it first under those conditions. When it comes too soon or is forced, it really messes up the entire relationship.
