Ofcourse you're going to flop if you just regurgitate what you saw on the stand up. It's all about learning the attitude of the comedian, his body language, his imagination and his creativity in the themes of his humour. He's not my fave though, not sure. I love so many of them. I can only think of one good american comedian though, but I can't remember his name. is style is actually quite similar to jimmy carr.
