Ah hell, I'll put my updates here.

I'm starting to compile a huge website. It's one of those...user/GUI/submission/resource sites all intergrated into one. It will be massive. I'll list down a lot of features I plan to shove in, but I can add every feature possible but it will not fly without support. I want you to quickly scroll though, take a look at what's there (horrible it is) http://docsster.com and offer suggestions.

There is so much I want to include in this project, because if it takes off, I can think of basing a e-business off it though advertising/purchasing/etc, and if there are people updating the resources, adding in articles, being active on the forums, it will be a huge enviroment.

Anyways, onto the feature list (I'm compiling a better menu so you can track progress).
- No site can be worthwhile without something to look at, so a article submission system is the first.
- Of course, for accessibility and better control of everything, a user database.
- Next comes settings, oddles and oddles of settings.
- Some stupidified and advanced CSS styling to customize the site (personalization) for those who wish.
- A personal message/notification center
- And, all of that can be wrapped up in the personal accessibility center (PAC, or more commonly referred to as the User Control Panel)

- So with all of these people throwing articles up to read, you'd need a way to organize it all. How about a super slick update section with easy menus to mark certain articles as favorites, monitor comments, monitor edits and monitor the next article buddy will write up.
- And as I just said, articles can be commented on to show user input.
- And the author can edit the article.

- But, when there's no articles going around, there's always the php/javascript based instant messenger to buddies.
- I guess that includes a buddy list, and a block/ban list while I'm at it
- And when none of your buddies are on the site, who says you can't explore articles with the handy search tool.
- And past that, I am creating from pure scratch forums. Hopefully many many forums.
- All this stuff has to be catagorized, so with 'Keywords' and a 'rating' system, I'm sure you'll find the best stuff fast.
- With javascript hide/show menus, you could suddenly have a huge list of favorite places to go on the site.

- As part of all of this good stuff, that means the site would be constantly updating. How about a dymanic update feature, where a full javascript client will listen for any personal messages, updates, submissions, news and posts and inform you of it all without the need to refresh to know. Awesome!
- And this client doesn't only listen, it will queue up your requests. As site traffic and the ability to be fast is a huge concern, instead of refreshing every time you click a link, or change a setting, it queues it up for you. Now, instead of waiting for all of those settings to take affect (and having timeouts), the java client will do it one at a time, queued up as much as you want, so you spend less time waiting for your wishes, and more time living in them.

- And the best part, I also offer webhosting on the side.
- And what's a website without hits? Soon, expect rotating afflicate buttons to sites all over the place. People will be walking into your site and into your arms!

Oh, Alpha Testing is the best part. It's when I pound the living crap out of a script (and myself) make sure it works perfect. Beta is finding what I missed, and how many crazy ass bugs we can create ^^,

Thank god I put in my MySQL error catching, I'd die without it. (I mean that with the die(mysql_error()) part )
To see an example, find the mysql_create_table script there and try to run it (aware that I disabled login ! yet? I told it to fail when the database is messed ^^,)

How messed? I remember back when I was (ninja)bug testing an online game the system would crash each time the errors occured(sp?) but login was never disabled, just extremely slow for whoever hadn't selected the specific settings.

Thus, it can't touch the database.
I catch the error (without my catch, it would stop right there and mess up the site layout)
I display it with funky colours!
And the rest of the site shows ^^,

I just have to trap the no file bug you see too :\
Edit to trapping no file: Try the mysql table create/delete now .

Ooh, shudder, online games. Thank god there's multiple computers so one can test, the other can host, etc...

Well, he could of always made it a anon autologin, since the problems were 'game' related, unless he was followign the only one online at a time rule.

this is fun, I'll give a rundown of what's running on my computer right now.
2 Explorer windows (one local site, one ftp real)
1 Syntax Highlighed Text Editor (9 files open)
2 Firefox Browsers (1: 7+ tabs, 2: CSS Cheat sheet)
1 MSN (thankfully quiet)
1 Thunderbird Email
1 WinAmp
1 Web Server/MySql/PHP

It's a huge project that I hope will take off, and I think the feature of 'article submission system' more then accounts for the ever-so vital space this thread takes up!

What colour would you recommend? (Mind you, it is temporary, but I do have good eyes and LCD monitors )
Edit: I gave it a darker blue/green and lightened up the text.

It's not garbage, for example these forums were hand crafted by whoever made the scripts, and Allen (who I'm pretty sure you know), spent wonderful amounts of time CONFIGURING and RESTORING the forums. If you're stating that my stuff is garbage, then I guess that's a direct insult to Mr. Allen isn't it.

You know what you should do, run a poll. "Is Docs a noob". That will show you how tough you are, boo-yah!

Besides, I don't hear other people supporting your attempts to call me out, I guess that is what happens when what you think ain't true. Onwards, a few updates (all viewable within site)
- Internet explorer sucks. Honest to god it is the worst thing ever. Mozilla-based users will have no problem looking at the awesome javascript in place for the user signup form, internet explorer users however...you don't get any pretty stuff. Sorry. I'll try to make a compatiable script later on -_-.

- User/Article submission is still down, however it should be up and running before the end of the week to some degree.

- Keep watching.

I have opened database BETA testing for user accounts.
-> Alpha - Local Testing (my laptop server)
-> Beta - You guys and girls!

This means the form will be currently functional, AND the authorization code sent by email will work. However, I also opened the create/delete scripts, so some idiot will click them, I'm sure of it . Let's just say, if it's kicking huge ass red errors at you, create/reset the tables and try again.

The biggest thing I'm looking for is bugs. (especially Internet Explorer Bugs, Linux ports (non mozilla), etc). Let me know though this topic.

Other then that, TRY to break it though the form.
---> And..no, your user accounts will not be kept at this moment!

I have not been able to update at all. I'm in the middle of purchasing a house, packing and goodbye parties. One more piece of paper and the house is mine. Can't wait!

Now, now, calm down Metal. On the flip side, most of the posts on this website are garbage too, and often made so by insulting replies such as yours. With all due respect, rise above it an act mature. I think DOC may have a good idea, but it needs some constant refinement, as do all concepts.

Mods, if Metal does try and flame me and DOC, please don't close the thread. I want to see how original he might be in flaming me. In the end he only brings the site down, as do all others who can't use logic to criticize so they use insults.
