The best advice I've ever read about ADD was in a book with a title that eludes me right now, but it is one of the most prominent ones -- ADD is a genetic condition, hardwired into your brain. It is not a matter of laziness, lack of willpower, etc. It is simply the way you are.

Also, when I was in middle school I was getting in trouble all the time for talking and not doing my work. It was either one or the other... And, I also cant seem to stay still because I am always moving or fidgeting.

Its also kindof funny how obssesed I would get with things too. Once I found a new thing, I would spend hours and hours trying to be better until one day I'd just get bored of doing it.
I have these same trait but I have diagnosed mine as creative genius. I'm a very creative individual (Mc, writer-books, screen plays) that is why I have so many thoughts going on in my brain. I harness mine not try to rid them. By harnessing mine I have learned self control.

"If you say I am fat and I will not lose weight" Every decision right after about anything concerning your health will be tied to that decision. You will not moderate what you eat or worry about excercise all because of that one statement. Titles you place on yourself or accept, alters any decision you now make in the future. ADD is a title, a concept not a real life desease. But as long as you accept it as your being you will as acept and live out all the characteristics of this concept (self forfilling prophecy).

Why is it that it seems like everyone and there dead gramma has add? I bet 90% of "add/adhd" cases are misdiagnosed.

I have ADD...

Right now I'm taking adderall and before I was taking Focalin.

Focalin was a little too good of a drug (and too short acting)... better than a lot of the cocaine I have done - hence, had to get off it.

However, I found Jvesti's post in this thread interesting. Adderall and Focalin don't necessarily seem to fix ADD for me, if there is other excitement nearby it is a lost cause. However, I feel the meds "trick" my mind into thinking I am enjoying what I am doing, as well as filling me with the urge to be productive.

Stuff works... but considering "ADD" is around whenever I am not on meds, and meds have crappy side effects... it really isn't a cure. The only thing it is a solid cure for is that is stops my day-dreaming (which leads to sleeping) in class.

Canada just banned Adderall, as it has been linked to a few deaths. Just to give you a heads up.

There's alot of ignorance out there about ADD. Alot of people just think its an excuse to be lazy or unproductive. Alot of people have tendencies of ADD, but the difference is that for people with ADD it's a biological brain disfunction, literally our brains are wired differently. Hense we deal with such symptoms all the time.

(Brain scans of an ADD brain versus a normal one).

Having ADD is not a vacation. I spent the first 20 years of my life with people telling me I was lazy, stupid, etc. I couldn't focus long enough to do the things I wanted to do (learn an instrument, work on my writing, etc). I miss social cues in convesation that a normal person would pick up, hense alot of my conversations are awkward and I have trouble making friends.

On the other hand, in many situations I have great creative abilities and my IQ level seems to be above-average.

Finally, if my ADD is made up, why is it that the amount of Ritalin I take to sit down and write an essay is enough to keep my normal friend awake all night? My brain is wired differently.

Simple recipe for testing ADD: Put a raunchy porn movie in front of someone for about 20 minutes. If they get up before their time is up, they are gay or have ADD.

People build tolerance to drugs. Do some research.

Fuck ADD. It's complete bullshit. Everyone in this thread saying they have it? That sounds pretty crap to me. Either EVERYONE in the world has a little bit of it or the medicine companies are taking advantage of people for their money, and saying there's 'something wrong with them.'

Pull up some studies, "ADD" is diagnosed more in America than any other country. It's not even recognized as a disorder in parts of the world.

That won't completely explain that it doesn't exist, but think about the fast-pace lifestyle in America. of course some people are going to seem a little off.

Of course Psychiatrists are going to support it also if it makes money!. Fact is, Ritalin and other ADD drugs have been making HUGE bank for the last 10+ years. And mostly in America. Smells pretty fishy to me!

Wait, so just because you all hate school and work, and are otherwise bored with mundane tasks you think you are sick?

Helllloooooooooo......

Welcome to reality. That crap is boring. You SHOULD be bored. Did you know that many great thinkers had the same problems? Who was it - Einstein I think - who flunked remidial math? Guess what? It's because it was TOO BORING for him. He's clearly a math genius. He has solved the "impossible" as a result. Some of the most sucessful people in the world are "average" thinkers, or even flunked school.

If you are not in a hospital, like an insane asylum, you're not sick. You're probably just BORED. Welcome to the club.

What you probably should try doing is something like start a business, find a new hobby like car racing or picking up chicks. ;)
I'm not denying it exists--some people in the world truly cannot concentrate on everyday tasks. However, it's overdiagnosed, and a lot of pussies think they have it which annoys me--not to mention a lot of psychiatrists make huge money off it

ADD is just having scattered thoughts, which come from a hyperactive mind. Meditate 15 mins a day for 1 week and see how "hereditary" ADD really is.
