Yes, they do stare, and for extended periods. Moreso when I was up north. It was pretty consistent, and they wouldn't look away. Some were too shy / intimidated to look at all. Not speaking from ego here. Several girls have said I (was) a pretty boy; gorgeous, very attractive, super hot, etc, at the time (23-28ish).
Down in the rural south, they don't really stare, or flirt, or approach. But the culture and society is a lot different than it was in the northern city. The women are much more reserved, conservative, and traditional. Sex isn't talked about at all, most conversations are "normal", there aren't a lot of flashy, revealing, provocative folks, and most people just get married. I also gained weight and became lazy with the appearance and such, so that might factor into it. But there's still girls at work who stare, or at the laundry mat. Haven't gone out much, or have a life yet, so we'll see later in the year.
