Do people call you names?

Every time I go out to ride my bike or jog, someone driving by always eventually says, "Faag!" or "Nice bike, geek!" or "Run faster!" or something along those lines. Occasional horn beeps, too.

Now, this has not bothered me in a long time. My self-confidence is at an all-time high and I'm getting some good action with quality chicks (thanks to a lot of the lesson learned here). But I can't help but wonder if getting called these names is normal. I suppose that given the thousands of people that drive by me when I go running, a couple are going to get their jollies by screaming out names. Does it happen to anyone else?

No, it doesn't happen to everyone. It might be the way your bike looks, the way you look, or even the clothes you wear when you go exercising. Wearing those tight biker shorts alone could be responsible for the remarks.

Are you riding your bike down the street with traffic? If so, don't take it personally. I yell stuff out to bikers all the time when I'm driving.

I pity those immature halfwits. They're probably jealous cos they don't have the motivation to get healthy. Good thing you don't give a sh!t!

I wear pretty normal clothes. Normal running shoes, some shorts I got from Old Navy (they got to my knees...they are NOT tight-ass running or biking shorts), and a white T-Shirt.

I think I'm often mistaken for gay, so that might have something to do with it. I'm well-mannered and generally clean cut, which immediately makes you a potential homosexual in today's society.

If you have a problem with people questioning your sexuality, you could always carry a hooker on your back while you're jogging or on the back of your bike when you're biking. Either that or you could accept that some people just do things like that, like crazykid here. Though it probably doesn't happen to everyone I've seen it happen to other people before, so I presume that it's normal but not overly-rampant.

Don't let them bother you. I ride a bike regularly and I do wear those bike shorts.

I get the typical immature yells and comments from driver and just ignore them. I do draw the line when they start throwing stuff out the car window or when they think it's funny trying to run us off the road. (Yes, it happens to me and other cyclist out there)

A warning to those immature people who feel the need to harass cyclist. We have dealt with plenty of a-holes and some of us have very short fuses concerning this topic. It's easy for us to run our handlebars down the side of your car and leave our mark or make a nice dent with our gay biking shoes.

The best though is when I'll catch up with the person to a light and I'll pull up next to them and flip or move their left side mirror. Really pisses them off and it doesn't damage the car.

Be careful when you ride a bike or run along-side traffic. When I was 15 some piece of sh!t threw a bottle at me while I was riding my bike, hit me in the head and knocked me out. I have permanent eye damage now because of it. So watch your ass.

Just be solid in you AC, that's all that counts. I don't run around high traffic volume so I don't get shouted at. I'm sure I'd get some if I were in the city...

How could you take it personally on any level when you think about it? They don't know you, they just see you running. I think even I've pulled off that childish bs in the past for shytes and giggles. I wish we could just type 'shi t'.

Anyway, I agree with your comment about society. Today in society you have to fit a certain profile to the T. If you don't have a girlfriend or look like you are dating someone you're a fag or something is wrong with you. If you're clean cut to boot you better watch out because a penus is bangin your butt- or atleast that's what people like to assume. Crazy days.

It's all about being completely decided on what you like and how you want to live your lifestyle- knowing it. Oh, and having a good time the whole way, that's it. If you're not having a good time then it's not worth it and you really don't know where you're going.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Ive encountered this several times, however not on a regular basis. Interestingly, these things happen alot more when you are a "lone" runner or biker or whatever. Since ive moved, it almost never happens b/c there are so many other people doing the same - itd be like having them say "fag" to 10 other people at the same time-

somewhat relevant . . . i have been approached by random girls in cars several times while riding my bike (theres always more than one and im usually on the sidewalk and they just pull over)-
i find this one of the oddest things ever . . .
It almost always ends up being me that has to carry the conversation and I always feel pretty lame b/c it is random as hell and I have no idea who these girls are. Is there something I am missing here? Is there something im supposed to do like ask for numbers or something?
does this happen to anyone else?

Dude, if a girl PULLS OVER to talk to you, she has pretty high IL. Who cares if you don't know them, that should give you more fuel for the conversation! If a girl does this, ask for the number! Never had this happen myself, but I ride/jog through a residential neighborhood with very little traffic.

Is it right to stop though? It's hard to resume your workout if you stop half way through. Also people say you should never alter your plans for a girl.
