I've had cold sores pop up on my lip about every month as far back as I can remember. It really takes a toll on your self esteem and how you interact with people. Imagine that every time you go to school you get your teachers rubbing their lips right after looking at you, or having people not even wanting to look at your face when you get one. fukking sux.
Anyway, as you can imagine, it's really tough to sarge with a big crusty sore on your lip.
I was in a relationship for 5 years with a girl who never got a cold sore in her life. I would always get them, we'd avoid kissing on the lips when I had one. She never caught it. It's my understanding that most people in the US have it, but only a few actually break out with them.
I finally got rid of them, after I started taking the drug Zovirax. It's a pharmaceutical that works amazingly well to help prevent a full on outbreak. You take it right when you feel the tingling of a cold sore coming on.
A few years ago, I'd get a sore about once every 3 months. Now, I get one about once a year.
Better living through chemistry. :cheer:
Cheers!
