I don't have an inspirational story, an amazing battle with something other than my own willpower, or anything else. All I have to offer is a bit of reality and insight that I've learned from starting with this site and growing in my own direction. If you're here for a new magic technique on picking up girls, this isn't the post for you. I actually still haven't really done much with a girl. I'm talking far more important things here. Life, destiny, happiness, that sort of thing. If you're still interested, listen up. If not...I doubt you're still reading.
I started here about a year ago, like many of you new guys (and most probably think I'm one...I don't post much). Horny, afraid, desperate, looking for a way to blink seductively to get a supermodel to instantly fall in love and ride on a horse into the sunset while holding her tits. Hate to break it to y'all, but that's pretty unrealistic.
But I'm digressing. I'm having trouble thinking of ways to organize this, so I'll put it into a list and add anecdotes.
1. Life is good. Accept that, don't whine about it, don't be negative. Everything that you want to be, you can be. You don't need a guide, someone's hand to hold, or a kick in the ass. YOU ARE THE FORCE! An old african proverb (coming from a white kid, go figure) "If there is no wind, row". And I'm not talking about women here. All my life I've wanted to be an engineer (actually, my parents wanted me to be one and I'm good at it. See #2.). I accepted that and worked for it. Every class I've had since junior year has been 6.0 credit and I maintain A/B's, sometimes sacrificing sleep, fun, whatever.
2. Be your own man! I recently was writing a gigantic report about Agent Orange in the Vietnam War (nasty stuff!) and stumbled upon a biography of a Navy SEAL. I've recently been reading into the SEALs program and I've decided that after college, if I still want to be one, I'm joining up. Mum doesn't like it or understand it and everything...but I'm making the best of my life and the hell that'll be behind a desk. I work out, run, and swim constantly. I'll mature a few more years through college to make sure I still want to do it then, and then I'll be HOOYAHing and gone from civilian life.
3. Kinda in step with number 2: Never accept anything completely. I'm not saying to rebel for the sake of rebelling, to be nonconformist or whatever for the sake of attention (I mean, for the sake of showing what sheep the world are. Excuse me.) I liked the DJ principles when I first read them, but like hell I'm an orthodox DJ nowadays. I tried fundamental christianity once...I learned a bit but got sick of it. I stopped it, though I still keep in touch with my Faith. Nothing is perfect, and it's up to you to make a customized, perfect amalgam of the best of everything.
4. Pook put it pretty nicely a while ago: "As you think, you shall become" (I apologize if I misquoted that). Attitude is very important. In fact, it's what makes or breaks anyone and determines to what degree. Do you think that Michael Jordan (He hasn't molested anyone yet, right? I need good role models here) never broke a sweat? His college coach told him he sucked and turned him down. Michael, instead of crying and feeling sorry for himself (which is something that you should never do. Period.), went to the court, and practiced until he dropped. He didn't let anything get in his way. He was his own driving force, and he eventually became incredibly successful.
5. Listen to your parents. Yeah, I know that sounds wierd coming from an 18 year old on a site that's oft percieved about getting laid. But they've been through almost everything that you have (they have...different time periods isn't an excuse, and on that note see number 6). They know far more about life than you, so do your best to respect and love them, and learn from them. I'm not saying that you should never disagree with them. My parents and I often have used-car-dealership-style debates about when I should be home from parties, etc. But if you need advice, if you're feeling down, or if you need someone to talk to, trust me and ask your parents.
6. NO EXCUSES. This one is hard for most everyone since today's business, school, etc worlds runs about as much on good excuses as it does results. But as someone pretty wise once said, "You get what you pay for." You don't get satisfaction from making a good excuse about something. I get a far better feeling from finishing an essay than claiming my printer died. I often swim on the beach for miles at a time (it's completely a mind game, try it sometime if you have access to a beach.) I could always leave the water because I'm cold, because I'm tired, because my balls in cold water are like peas, because...you get the idea. But swimming until I reach where I want to go won't kill me, it'll only build me. No whining, just do it.
Thus concludes my post. I've got more to say but it's not coming to my head right now, and you bastards have quite a bit to digest. I'm getting some sleep, if you have any questions my AIM is FinnishBassist but I won't give chick advice. Peace out.
