Dear Burroughs,
In the past I have questioned your pessimistic attitudes on Western Civilisation and your relating this to the Female oriented philosophies our Societies are following....I am no longer sure that I was right...in microcosm it is said that the Gods will send mad A Man they wish to destroy, perhaps something similar happens to Societies?....A Society driven by Female attitudes will reflect the minds of Women...Driven by Romantic and impractical illusions.....Spurning hard Business decisions because they just cannot grapple with hard logic...You have recently looked at Family values and Schooling...Why not consider migration....Consider Singapore...Soon to be the richest per capita Nation on Earth...They have nothing but brains to offer the World...For brawn they also import the Hewers of wood and carriers of Water.....Fourty percent of its Population is cheap migrant labour....Can they stay, bring their families over, marry locals!....No!...Now compare your own Society, where vast swathes of Land in your South are being taken over by the new Santa Annas...The Boys of that Old Brigade in the Alamo must be turning in their graves!

Amazing story.

He actually fell into debts at first by caring for "aging in-laws" meaning his wife's parents. Then the wife of course kicked him out and got the house, cash and prizes while his arse was out on the streets.

Couldn't help but notice that his 3 adult children let their dad be homeless too and only "help out when they can". Strong American family values right there...

Good story Burroughs. I'm happy he made a comeback after being put through the grinder but I got to say, the sooner these civilization builders as I like to call them say fvck it and the sh!tty system collapses the better for all of us.

Pods for the homeless eh? So while the gubment continues to punish these provider types and give her the keys to his house at least all the Millhouse dad's get a pod now. The least he could have done is flick a match to his house on the way out and done us all a public service.

yes you grasp the sad truth here...

the really unfortunate thing is how few men realize they are destined to be treated the same way by their *wife and family* as this man was.

indeed where were his fvcking children.....and you know they'll all be lining up like puppys if 'daddys' company ever made serious $$...this is the truth so few men get

men are wage slaves

I guess men are the eternal individualists...foolish optimists believing the illusions created for them...believing they are kings instead of slaves

I wouldn't go that far. Men are individualists that we socialize less, but we are also generalists when it comes to our work. We always think of others, even those that are not even our family at our expense. In some ways, this is a good thing, as demonstrated by Dr. Jong Chen that he's able to have faith in the stranger-homeless man. In other ways, it can backfire that Mike got in debt partly because he helped out his in-laws.

Society expects us to sacrifice. It's been that way for centuries. Selfish men are looked down upon, as it should be, but men are also expected to bear the weight of others. And thus the chumpy is born, thinking he's being noble and kind, while in reality he's being stepped on.

Meh.

Women are even more individualists, if you ask me. They tear men, and they tear each other apart.

maybe you should

you are halfway there...go the next half and you will see the system for what it is.

men are slaves the moment they marry he becomes the property of his wife enforced by the state, even if they divorce HE WILL still pay for the rest of his life enforced by the courts and jails of the state

Is this pod designed for a homeless couple? Or could you just fit a small singaporean FB in for a night or two? ;)

A great story of survival, although the Chinaman is perhaps pulling the wool over folks eyes here; he got good inventive European brains designing some original stock for him, and it seems as though the tooth butcher holds the copyright - plus $4500 is not within the reach of most down and outs.

However, a lower cost alternative may soon be available from mainland China? ;)

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

This is the most disbursing part of the whole story. How can you possibly let your dad become homeless (unless you are homeless yourself, which doesn't seem to be the case here). It makes you wonder how many of the homeless guys you see on the street actually have children or siblings somewhere who simply don't give a sh*t about them. Sad.

Chinaman eh? Showing the same class as the American family that betrayed and booted this genius man out on the streets. You don't even deserve to lick the "Chinaman"'s boots.

I have every sympathy, Jitterbug, for men who have a rough ride, but there are too many failures here in this mans life, thats why I contend he may have been a junkie. He is most certainly a spineless, unrespected father to receive that kind of treatment. Perhaps he shoulda taught his kids some respect over his kids rather than letting them become selfish little sewer rats
