ive really thought about this too.
in terms of netwrking, there is just nothing like it. especially if youre young, who knows what sort of business opportunities it will open up for you in the future.
nonetheless, i really hate the scrutiny that goes along with it. While i realize you can put things on private and such it just feels like people know way too much about you sometimes. Also, it feels a little high school-esque at times as well.

Yeah I know. It sucks because everyone in your network knows what goes on. Now an ex who I used to be close to joins and adds all my friends. Annoying as f*ck. I mean I only have a select few close friends.
I still wanna connect for the music stuff and other groups. I think I'll start a new one.

Possibly the worst thing about facebook is that potential/current employers can "spy" on you, my lectuerer was telling how all the aplicants to a bank job in the city had been "pre-checked" befoer the interviews even started by using facebook.
Every one should change all their privacey levels to as secure as possible...unfirtunately the most private youy get is "friends only can view XXX" (eg, pictures, personal info)
it amazes me how much ****e gets put up on it, especially photos of from nights out where its just a regualr night, and nothing special happens.... OR embrasaring pictures get put up of you....

i shagged some girl on holiday last year, she adds me to facebook, after making her wait 2-3 weeks untill i finally acepted her friend invitation (she got really mad-which was hilarious!!). within a few hours of me acepting her, my buddy had also addded her as a freind...i was lik e...WTF you never even talked to her...?!Blaise said:Yeah I know. I've thought long and hard about dumping Facebook, but it just isn't practical. As an upperclassman in college I need to keep that Networking alive.
On a more social level, I did some traveling last summer and made some friends from a different part of the country, and Facebook is really the only way to stay in touch with them. That's another reason I'm hesitant to jettison it.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

I call BS. If there are people in your life who really want to hear from you there are more interpersonal ways for them to reach you. So the telephone and e-mail are not good enough these days? You want to network? Grab a phone number and grab a lunch every once in a while to keep in contact. If people are not in the same country e-mail can still be used to send pictures and **** without having to worry about all the privacy issues that come along with using FB. I don't have facebook (used it for two months and then dropped it) but I don't care if others want to use it, but it pisses me off to no end when people insult me for not having it. I like to maintain some level of privacy. I don't like it when people know who I am adding as friends and a lot of the BS related to that.
I couldn't really get into the whole FB thing. I found it kind of dumb to be honest with you. From pointless status updates to relationship status changes and always those obnoxious people who leave posts on your wall in all caps or update their own status every 2 hours. I don't want the whole world to know what is going down with my life and the privacy options don't really help too much.
It's a tool that can be useful or helpful, I just didn't find it to be either of those. Facebook as a networking tool is dead in the water IMO, instead if someone were to develop a website similar in design but better in executuion for those who are more interested in business connections than finding new chicks to date then that is something I may want to try out. Facebook is not the only way to network and keep in touch with people.

I see what you're saying, but for me the Networking aspect is a little different. I have an online sportswriting internship that requires that I share my writing with at least 5 social networking sites. Facebook is practically mandatory, because I can only email and Tweet for so long.
