What workouts should I do to make my chest/abs/back more defined and get rid of the love handles?

I don't really eat a lot, I'll eat 2-3 meals a day with a small snack or so in between.

A normal day for me would be a bowl of cereal in the morning and a plate of oxtail with rice and peas for dinner, and occasionally i'll eat a hero for lunch like 1-3 times a month.

I stay fairly active, I'm a sales rep so I do a lot of walking. And I work out at home every now and then. Here are some pics of how i look now. Any advice? tips? or workouts I should be doing? I'm also planning on jogging every morning now.

I'm going to start dieting again, but I have previously and there weren't much of a change, I used the calculations in the cutting thread ( I think thats where I got it from) and I made sure I didn't consume more than the calories I came up with.

So thats one thing to do, diet. Anything else that will help?

Well that depends. Do you want to build up your chest first, or get a slimer torso? You can't bulk and cut at the same time, although if you are new you will get new lifter gains even if you are cutting. So if you want a slim torso, cut. Muscular chest, bulk.

It's impossible for the cutting diet not to work. If you continue to slowly increase your calorie deficit, you WILL lose fat...it's inevitable.

Be sure you complement it with HIIT a few times a week (in the morning before you eat). Forget about bulking for now--I like mindovermatter's advice: cut first, then bulk so you can see the results. Good luck.

I disagree: HIIT should be down properly fuelled, later in the day (or in the morning after ingestion of suitable low GI carbs).

Agree. I tried it on no fuel and felt like I was gonna puke, stopping halfway through. Tried it the next day after having eaten a decent meal about 3 hours earlier, and made it through.

I would've actually gone more, but my shoes were starting a blister on my foot.

Common sense. Without the help of gear it is not possible.

To build muscle, you need a surplus of calories. To cut, you need a deficit. With those two things in mind, who do you propose to cut and bulk at the same time?

I already said, unless you are seeing newbie gains, where the gains are less building muscle and just becoming denser, you CANNOT cut and bulk at the same time without some kind of gear. And even when you get bigger it doesn't work even then.

k, so i started my diet today. For breakfast: 2 small bagels w/cream cheese. Lunch: 2 small bagels with cream cheese. Dinner: 2 chicken nuggets with 2 small bagels w/cream cheese. I haven't done any excersizing yet though I plan on doing some situps/pushups before I take a shower & go to bed.

Peace and Quiet

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

I hate to get on you since you're making an effort to get into shape, but you really need to do some reading before you start this. You ate no vegetables, no fruit, and the bagels you ate probably weren't whole grain. There's a ton of information at sites like WebMD and MyPyramid.gov.

Don't just jump into this with the thought that eating less food will make you thin. I eat incredible amounts of food every day and have gone from 38" pants to loose 33" pants. The difference is that I'm eating lower fat foods, dense in complex carbs (good carbs like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc).

Amen to that.

You need to do some more researching before you can make the most out of your diet.

Last time I did a cutting diet I did eat fruits, etc... My breakfast consisted of 2 bananas and cereal or 2 bananas and egg whites. For lunch: Cantelope or a fruit cup. For dinner: Chicken w/ about a handfull of rice. Plus I'd drink carrot juice, alot of water, and sometimes an ensure to replace a meal. But buying fruit cups/fruits is expensive considering I don't have a job yet, which i'm trying to do at this moment.

Okay, you keep thinking that.. obviously been brainwashed by bbing.com or Flex or whatever - and to be honest at your age, so was I.

I'm natural, been training for years and can build muscle and lose bodyfat at the same time quite efficiently.

Yea I am a sales rep but it's no good. You get yourself your own appointments and I'm running low on that. If you have no appointments, you get no pay. So I'm looking for a real job now.

Explain it to me then. Because last I checked all the studies (not bbing.com posts, that site is worthless, so is flex) have said that to build muscle a surplus is needed and to burn fat a deficit is needed so it seems like it would be mutually exclusive to be able to do both without 'help'. To simply say I am wrong without explaining WHY so I can correct myself is as useless as you just saying you are right and thats it, or me being wrong.

I really haven't read too much on it, so this is by no means a professional opinion, but it seems like if you're overweight to begin with your body would draw the calories from fat the same way it does when you do cardio. Maybe not...just throwing that out there.

I remember watching a show on Discovery Health called "The Body Challenge" where a few people lost a ton of weight and bulked up a bit at the same time. There wasn't too much info on whether or not they'd ever lifted before.

Like anything else, it's just a matter of scouring the web to find studies and whatnot.
