This company is claiming that they have pills that will give an artificial tan (like the lotion). Have any of you tried or heard of this? I decided to give it a try since $30 isn't that much to me anyway. I'm still waiting for them to come in the mail. The site claims that it takes upto 30 days to work, so I'll post my results then.

Well there is a another pill called canthaxathin that's pretty old technology that gives you a tan. But it's not FDA approved and it can turn you orange.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

I just find it funny that there arent any before and after pictures. You'd think for a product like this, assuming it works, would have tons of pictures of happy customeres. Even their paid models don't have pics.

Hey to each his own. Good luck man.

i thought there was a health issue with the tanning pills, like it did something strange to your eyes.

Do some research.

Right, that's with canthaxathin, which is illegal in the US anyway. This isn't canthaxathin.

It's expensive, I don't tan easily, it's a pain to go out of my way to get there and spend the time to tan, I use acne medication that makes me more likely to burn, I don't want skin cancer.

2 weeks and I still haven't gotten them in the mail. I sent them an email to see what's up. I'll give them one week before I contact my credit card company to reverse the charges.

This would be a really great solution!

But what scares me a lot is:

1. They "Canthaxathin is not approved by the FDA to be sold for human consumption due to its side effect, which include:
- Coloring the soles of your feet and the palms of your hand.
- Can cause a rare eye disease.
- Providing a fake orange look

Now their deeptan pills are not approved by FDA either.
Does it mean they can cuase some other coloring, rare disease?
Sure, we cannot exclude this possibility.

2. You obviously cannot get this tan permanently, you have to constantly eat the pills. Something that constatntly disrupt melanin production to the level that the skin turns brown... well, I will not be so sure it is safe.

Wow this is old. I got the pills, but I haven't taken them. I decided to start tanning the old fashoned way, which I continued until I got a GF and became lazy :p

Actually I am interested in tanning, but in a safest way possible.
I don't tan easily.. in fact I don't think I can tan at all.. I just turn red :(

What is your old fashioned way?

Ah, yeah I'm looking for another way to tan. For a while now, I've been getting the spray-on "Mystic Tan" or doing it at home. Self-tanners can be expensive, and they generally only last 2 or 3 days. I've grown tired of re-applying them all the time + trying to avoid bleaching my eyebrows or missing spots. It can get to be a real chore.

I figured that maybe doing a regular tan would be a lot easier, though I'm still concerned about skin cancer since my grandfather had some skin cancer.

I'm not a dude of Celtic decent with a lot of freckles who CAN'T tan.
But I am white with auburn hair. I can only remember being naturally tan one or two times in my life. So what would that make me, skin type 2?

Anyways, the Mystic Tans were about 20 dollars a pop. For a broke college student, that's hard to keep up every 3 days. Although the place I go to does offer a plan where you sign up for 6 tans and you pay $100 up front.

Main things I'm considering are:

1) Price
2) How many sessions it'll take for me to see a difference
3) Skin cancer and the formation of freckles or wrinkles

There's no denying that a tan makes you look better, ESPECIALLY if you're extremely pale. A lot of guys won't notice too much of an improvement in looks from a tan. Maybe 1 or 2 points, as mentioned.

But if you're so white that it's a weakness, then you'll notice a huge improvement. In the name of the scientific method, I posted 2 pics of me on hotornot.com. Same pose. Same lighting, pretty much the same hairstyle.

Only difference was that in one I was wearing fake tan and in the other I was pale. FOUR POINT DIFFERENCE in favor of the tan picture. Granted, the camera flash magnified my paleness, so it made me look worse than I really am, but the results still speak volumes.

So anyways. I'm sort of on the fence about this. I might try 2 or 3 sessions just to see how it goes and see if I notice improvement in my skin conditions (my derm told me that keratosis pilaris can be quelled via tanning, and that normally he tells people to avoid the sun, but it can be beneficial for me).

If anybody has experiences to knock me off the fence in either direction, I'm listening.

I went to a tanning salon for a few months. It was a really high quality place too, not just one of those $2 tan places. A single session would cost around $10, but they had plans you could sign up for that would drastically reduce the price. I eventually signed up for a month to month plan that cost around $30 and let me come in almost as much as I wanted. The trick is to just go consistantly and to not expect perfect results for a few weeks. You also should ease into it, and only start with 8-10 minute sessions. If you get burned, you've gone for too long. After awhile my skin adjusted and I was able to tan outdoors fairly easily, so I stopped going to the salon and read books at my apartment complex pool and the beach.

Around October I stopped tanning (the GF), and we were together for about a year until afew months ago. Even after taking a year off of tanning, I went to the pool again recently and could still tan and not burn as easily. As soon as the weather improves I plan on picking up on it again.

BTW I'm part Celtic (some freckles and reddish facial hair), but also part Italian. So unless you're full blooded Irish or similar, you should have no trouble.

Duke, I've tried those self tanners. They really do suck. Mystic Tan looks nice, but it's too expensive for me at this point. Eventually when I start making good money I plan on using Mystic Tan however.

Interesting, Shiftkey, thanks for the update.

Yeah oddly enough I have reddish/auburn hair and I'm part Italian too. Brown eyes. So I guess I'll be good.

I mean I've tanned before, but only after a tun of unnecessary sun that ended up burning me first. But then I've never gone outside with sole intention of tanning.

If I spend about 25-30 mins a day running around outside, it takes about 2 weeks for me to see any change in my skin tone, and then it usually peaks and I don't get any darker. Which means I'm no longer ghost white, but have a healthier looking "whiteness" if you know what I mean.

I'm still a bit concerned about the skin cancer, but I don't really desire to be dark, I just wanna be NOT PALE.

I'd be interested to know what skin tone you get by taking the "What's your shade?" test at
http://www.planetbeach.com/index.aspx?id=36

I got "Frosted Opal."

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.
