Dancing at Grad Nite

I had an weird experience yesterday at grad night. When I was on the dance floor I asked 3 different girls to dance (grind) but I was rejected every time. After that I started just dancing alone slowly moving toward girls I wanted to grind with and this time I actually manage to grind with a girl without asking

So my question is when grinding is it better to ask or just take action?

actually, in DD CDs he has an interview with a girl and she says its creepy when i guy randomly starts dry humping her on the dance floor, i always ask girls who aren't dancing if they would like to dance, or i cut in with girls i know and dance with them. BTW, i also went last night and found it a hard time dancing (disneyland right?).
