I dont think you want to look like a hippie, or a glow stick.

Casual, clean clothes. Not over dressed, not under dressed. Cool shoes are always good. And try to match something. Your shoe laces could match your shirt - or shoes and shirt the same color. Look at how women color coordinate. They notice this stuff.

ANd, what kind of girls are you trying to attract? Dress to please your target market. If that's hippies, wear the tie dye, etc.

Do what style you like, but make sure it FITS!!! Easily the most important part of looking good in clothing, make sure the shoulder seam breaks right at your shoulder, and that the shirt hugs you, but at the same time you aren't ripping out of it, works really well if you've got a decent chest and abs. Coordinate a little, but don't try to hard, girls will silently laugh at you. When I started trying to dress nicer I looked in gq and at askmen.com, but a lot of that is just check out this 80 dollar t shirt, nothing about actually styling or dressing well. Just go with what works for you, and make sure it looks good on you. Don't buy cloths that you like that aren't in your size even if you really like em, I used to do that and now I have a whole bunch of unused cloths lying around.

i already hav a pretty decent wardrobe and good variety of shoes...i was jus wonderin if theres anythin new that i should be lookin out for

im a casual kinda dresser. jus jeans and a tshirt are fine but i make an effort to stand out a lil...not too much, jus havin somethin unique or stylish on helps tho...and i hav GQ. i take some advice from them but they also tend to cater to the rich mid 20s to 30s kinda guys so i dont listen to everythin they say

as for the kinda girls im tryna attract...i dont really hav anythin particular in mind...college girls? haha theyre not much different besides the ones that party hard and the ones that dont. either are appealing...and a lil bit of ghettoness is fine, but i dont wanna hoodrat. i guess as long as ur not REALLY preppy or REALLY ghetto, im good haha

Actually.. I too have noticed that GQ's stuff is mainly for the more affluent guys in their mid 20's to 30's and I'm actually planning on starting a site geared towards fashion for the age groups of 18-25 (college age). Haven't seen any like that yet, so I hope this will become a success.

if you don't want to look like everyone else, don't shop at the mall and don't buy stuff because its on sale. plan what you like and get what you like, whether its expensive or cheap.

I like little boutique stores....i'm in LA though..we have a lot of them....it depends on where you are....but since the internet is here.......

www.karmaloop.com (hip-hop-vibe)
www.revolveclothing.com (lots of different stuff)
www.thecloset.com (surfer kind of things)

dunno.....for dressy clothes its easier..but for more lounging stuff its harder.....

I like Complex Magazine....its a bit too hiphop though...Details..the UK edition is good..hell...all the UK mags are way better than the US ones which are just full of ads.

I don't know what prep school inspired this look. Are you sure you know what "preppy" is?

where colors that go well together and look good on you. where clothes that fit properly. generally bright colors are for spring and summer while dark colors are for fall and winter. look to GQ, esquire, details for an idea of how clothes should fit you. be aware that a lot of trendy high fashion stuff is exclusively for people who can afford a whole new wardrobe every season.

if your not in highschool don't dress like it. likewise if your not a surfer, or not black don't try to fool people by the way you dress. be hip without being to trendy

where nice shoes. nice belts. get a sick watch if you can afford it.

never where cheap accecories. people will judge you much more by the type of sunglasses you have on than on wether you spent $15 or $50 on your T shirt.

go for quality. learn to recognize good fabric and stitching

military boots and boot cut Levi's jeans with a leather jacket in winter are my usual casual wear, for special events I wear a "Sport-Chic" suit without a tie.

Also...
-check out the mannequins on display especially. They are usually dressed by the fashionable store clerks and have to be looking sharp to be there in the first place.
-when you walk around and see someone with a swagger or a look you want, take note of it for yourself
-if people say you look like *insert someone famous* then perhaps it is best to capitalize on that and dress in a similar fashion, provided it is within your ideal look
-ALWAYS TRY ON CLOTHES. i used to be one of those guys who went home with pants 4 sizes too big, but now, Im the guy who has 12 items of clothing in the dressing room, mixing and matching to see what works best. Dont just assume stuff looks good on you. Make sure it does via the mirror
