Crying causes your body to release prolactin. Prolactin causes you to lactate, and it also counteracts the effects of dopamine. Dopamine causes you to be horny/happy.

It's known that high prolactin levels can cause loss of libido.

It's also known that the body releases dopamine when you smile.

Everybody likes a happy person. That includes women.

Would you rather cry, or force yourself to smile?

Your choice.

Crying ? I also read that it releases the stress hormones. So who's crazy now ?

Dopamine is being released when you smile because you are stimulated by outside stimuli to smile. Then you release dopamine and you smile.

You don't smile then release dopamine. Makes no sense just because you contract few muscles on your face to release dopamine.

Why ? Because you move those muscles when you talk as well.

I just wonder how much would you have to cry to get high levels of prolactin ?

And you just pointed out one thing for crying. I still have my bets that it was created to vent out way too much stress hormones. Do you feel better when you cry the hell out of you or when you are angry and smile on purpose ?

Edit Read on Wikipedia

"Tears produced during emotional crying have a chemical composition which differs from other types of tears. They contain significantly greater quantities of the hormones prolactin, adrenocorticotropic hormone, Leu-enkephalin[4] and the elements potassium and manganese.[2]"

Guess what, prolacting is in TEARS. Which means it releases prolactin away from your body. That means you will be hornier.

Leaving it inside yourself will lower your libido. That's why studies say that men who don't cry have later in their lives problems with heart and other organs. And die faster.

Prolactin overload.

As a man, you should be in control of your emotions, or at least appear to be in front of women. The only time it is acceptable for you to cry in front of a woman is perhaps immediately after hearing the news of a very close family member (or extremely close friend) passing away. Even then, she will have more respect for you if you don't cry in those (or ANY) circumstances.

This may sound cold, but attraction isn't "fair" or "reasonable", a woman EXPECTS her man to be a "rock".

I read this just in time.

I was going to try my new "Crying Opener" this weekend. I was planning on standing on a street corner trying various degrees of crying, from minor tearing and sniffling to all-out weeping to see if any receptive women would approach me.

"There there, Atom Smasher, why don't you tell me all about it?"

I'll bet a few of us here could make that work! ;)

No more keyboard jockeying . Action is the place.
Your body has a negative feedback system for prolactin production. Theres no way , even with immense amounts of crying, that you will ever get to an "overload" of prolactin in a MALE body. Im sorry but your science doesnt make sense here. The body never over produces what it doesnt need, it shuts off production once its reached it maximum. You cant have more. Also if you have a low amount of prolactin/estrogen in your body you will LOSE your libido. Thats why if your ever taking an anti estrogen , like a PCT off of a pro hormone, some people lose their libidio because they kill their estrogen and prolactin production because they are scared of gyno (male breasts) .

Also being dopamine is directly linked with being happy. Your hormones are directly related to your emotions, if you force a smile but still feel like sh1t nothing is going to happen. It is that external stimulus, as Scott said, that makes you happy on the inside with smiling is just the outcome of said external stimulus. Then your dopamine recptors in you brain will uptake a considerable amount of dopamine making you seem happier. Ahh dont you guys love science?!

I don't think I could ever smile if I didn't cry. I'm an advocate of expressing everything you feel... then again I am extremely emotional. Just do it in private and never make decisions based on emotions.

It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. It was more like an indirect way of saying "Crying is for women."

We know. We're just having a little fun with it and/or expounding on it.

We are humans and got emotions. Society dictates that men must not be seen crying. So, cry when nobody can see you. Who gives a **** anyway ? You're not a pu$$y because of that.

What about tears of joy? would being powerfully affected by something incredibly beautiful make you a sissy? Also, what about the chemical composition of tears of joy?

I don't think there is anything wrong with crying. Roger Federer cries everytime he wins a Grandslam and lots of men cry at funerals or they shed a few tears of happiness when they are presented with their first child etc. This is perfectly acceptable to me, it's those people who cry over virtually nothing, who are overally sensitive that get on my nerves and need to be told to 'man up'.
