Creatine supplementation influences substrate utilization at rest.

Huso ME, Hampl JS, Johnston CS, Swan PD.

Department of Nutrition, Arizona State University, Mesa, AZ, USA.

The influence of creatine supplementation on substrate utilization during rest was investigated using a double-blind crossover design. Ten active men participated in 12 weeks of weight training and were given creatine and placebo (20 g/d for 4 d, then 2 g/d for 17 d) in two trials separated by a 4-week washout. Body composition, substrate utilization, and strength were assessed following week 2, 5, 9 and 12. Maximal isometric contraction (1-RM) leg press increased significantly (P < 0.05) following both treatments but 1-RM bench press was increased (33 kg +/- 8, P < 0.05) only following creatine. Total body mass increased (1.6 kg +/- 0.5, P < 0.05) after creatine but not after placebo. Significant (P < 0.05) increases in fat-free mass were found following both creatine (1.9 kg +/- 0.8) and placebo (2.2 kg +/- 0.7) supplementation. Fat mass did not change significantly with creatine, but decreased after the placebo trial (-2.4 kg +/- 0.8, P < 0.05). Carbohydrate oxidation was increased by creatine (8.9% +/- 4.0, P < 0.05), while there was a trend for increased RER after creatine supplementation (0.03 +/- 0.01, P = 0.07). Changes in substrate oxidation may influence the inhibition of fat mass loss associated with creatine following weight training.

The fat mass decreased after the placebo trial.

The benefits of lean mass gain from creatine will exert fat loss effects due to increased metabolic rates resulting from muscle development.

Youre right, kinda. BUT every detail of diet and excercise would have to be perfect. all gains must be pure muscle otherwise youre gaining fat as well. Thats hard to do especially when creatine isnt that great at building muscle. So, youre probably going to gain some fat with the muscle you build while taking creatine.

Resparitory Exchange Ratio (RER) is a measure of glucose/fat at what ratios they are being used as fuel. It increased after creatine intake. Thats not good if youre trying to lose fat. If it increases it means more glucose than fat is being used as fuel.

Creatine is not a good idea if youre on a reduced calorie diet.

the reason creatine helps your body gain weight is because the cells in your body need something called adenesine triphosphate or ATP to do their work your body has about a 3-4 second supply of this(it uses about a billion and a half units per second) which means if your body ever stopped producing ATP you would die in about three to four seconds so you have to constantly be replacing it to do that goes like this:

ATP-what the body uses first and foremost

Creatine-what the body burns next to create more ATP

glucose in the blood stream- what the body burns next to create more ATP after it has run out of ATP and Creatine. Burning this take about 2-3 hours.

glycogen in the liver- the body breaks this down into glucose which it then burns to make more ATP after it has run out of ATP, Creatine, and Glucose in the blood stream. Using this up takes about 2-12 hours.

Triglycerides(fat)-what the body uses to make ATP this is its last resort hence why it takes so much effort to lose it.

so what does this mean? it means when you eat your body replenishes all of these things starting first with plain old ATP then moving on to Creatine and so on and so on.

If you keep feeding your body Creatine guess what it uses to make ATP and you see how far down triglycerides(fat) is on the list that is why you dont burn the fat and gain weight because nothing you eat it being used up its all being stored because your body doesnt need to use it with the constant supply of Creatine you are feeding it.

now this can also be applied to losing weight.

best time to work out right when you get up BEFORE YOU EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING because notice the times it takes your body to burn all that stuff and how long you sleep on average do the math when you wake up your body will be burning pure fat and then when you eat it will start replacing things starting with ATP and ending with fat which means by the time it gets to replacing the fat there isnt anything left to replace it with so the fat you just burned goes bye bye.

this is also why people are generally grouchy in the morning because your brain needs glucose to function at optimum levels and people tend to get cranky when their brain doesnt have enough glucose to function.

Either way they're not for the extreme side... fat nor skinny.
Unless they know what they're doing and are persistent which most aren't.

You're 16. I dunno if you want to take the "risk" that so many people claim to have on your age.
I'd say just lift, since you say you look skinny, just eat more. I know you're not eating enough.

i eat breakfast, lunch, lunch, dinner. I live to eat, if my stomach isnt full, i keep eating. My friends know that I eat like the average 300 pounder. I know some friends that say they eat 24/7 and such, but when I ask them at school "why arent you eating", they tell me, naw, im not hungry, i wait till i get home. So i know people who are skinny because they really dont eat like they claim, but for me its different.

Everything I ate 30 min ago, which was (skirt steak sandwich, a slice of calzone pizza, cheese sticks and fries) will be out of my system by tomorrow. My friends tell me that I already have a fast metabolism and ontop of that my house is always unusually warm, and it helps quicken my metabolism. So Im hoping somewhow I can gain some weight with creatine.

First gain weight, then get cut, or maybe both at the same time.

Just gain the weight and forget cutting... for now.

Eat even when you're full.

I personally think that creatine is great on a cut.
most people lose strength on a cut, and thus the creatine will allow you to maintain the weights you are using, thus keeping up your muscle size.

i have always used creatine to cut, in fact I am using it right now.
I always cut up without much muscle loss.

when it comes down to it, a reduction is weight comes across via a calorie deficit. if i ate 10calories a day, and took creatine dont tell me that i aint gonna lose mass.. whether it be fat or muscle.

dont worry about it bloating you or whatever, be concerned with muscle and strength presevation, fat loss.

once u cycle off ur fine

nah it sort of keeps the strength u had when you are in the off season.

when u are cutting, #1 priority is preserving muscle mass.

Most young people do not lose much muscle while cutting anyway. And remember, you are not necessarily losing strength, but you are definitely losing performance in the gym while cutting.

If it works for you, use it. But realize that creatine does inhibit fat loss.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
