I have some theories which, as crazy as they sound, I've come to believe in.
Most of them are based on the beliefs of ancient civilizations and on random realizations.

-I believe the Earth goes through “sleeping” and “awake” periods that last about 5000 years each (this is from Mayan beliefs).

-During the awake periods, the planet is very active. There is a lot of natural activity such as hurricanes, volcanos, etc. Humans exhibit super intelligence and greater physical strength. During the sleep period, consciousness slows down and less energy exists in the universe. Right now we're in a sleeping period. ( I base this on research that shows that we use our brain and our muscles at only 10% of capacity). This explains the pyramids and other unexplained structures, as well as the advanced astronomical knowledge of ancient peoples. Egyptians lived during the awake period.

-Many ancient societies associate the left side with feminity and the right side with masculinity. even today, the right side of the body is known as the masculine side, and left side as the feminine. For me this means that consciousness is feminine and logic is masculine. Since ancient societies lived during the awake period, they operated with consciousness. This is why ancient societies were matriarchies (female ruling) and modern societies are patriarchies (males rule).

-The Sun rises from the east and, since the east is on the left, this signifies the awakening of consciouness, because it wakes us up in the morning. But this explains why spirituality is prevalent in the East. Because its on the left. This also explains why Western culture, the right side, has been in control of the world the past few thousand years, because we are in the “sleeping consciousness” period, where logic and critical thinking is prevalent. But thuis also means that we are motivated by instant gratification such as money, sex, and drugs. In the awaked period Eastern culture is in control of the world. The goal of people during this period is self-realization, rather than material possessions, and are motivated by big picture achievements.

-During sleep time, Earth activity is not as great. Tectonic activity slows down a lot and weather is less volatile. Humans are in a “sleep state” where they are deeply influenced by their thoughts and blinded by their egos. They also make drugs, money and sex as the main parts of their lives.

-I believe we’re entering the awakening period. I base this on all the environmental events happening lately, the revolutionary uprisings happening all over the world, as well as the rise of Eastern powers and decline of the West.

-Consciousness is the truth and the ego distorts the truth. Therefore, modern society’s ideas are distortions of the truth, but if we dig deep into them, we will find the truth. For example, logic tells us that the Sun is only a star, but the deep truth is that it is a form of God because it gives us life. (no Sun = no life on Earth). This is why ancients treated it as a God, and we still do, hence the day SUNday.

-If there was a way to be fully conscious all the time, we would always make the right choices. however, this would require people to have a constant control of their thought activity.

Do you guys have any sort of beliefs like these? I would also like to hear your perspectives.

I left one.

- There's no right or wrong. Everything is neutral.
If a hand pulls the trigger of a gun and shoots a bullet, piercing another human's heart and ending his life. Is this act good or bad? the answer is it depends on the factors the mind attributes to that act.
Was the shoorter a thief? Was it in self-defense?
As long as the mind isn't judging the act, the act is neutral.

This has deeper meanings, such as God being just a creation of the mind.

Monday is the day of the moon; does that mean we worship the moon? (in Latin it is Lunes)

Sorry, but it would help if you'd provide evidence that suggest humans weren't always like this. Have you ever read the book Guns, Germs, and Steel? It details human history pretty thoroughly; it sounds like you're suggesting that Earth was dominated by the superintelligent and the psychic millions of years ago, and then everyone's brains suddenly RESET, like a tape player. IN other words, it sounds like a cute bedtime story, as opposed to factual evidence...

-Many ancient societies associate the left side with feminity and the right side with masculinity. This probably comes from the fact that the left hemisphere of our brain processes feelings and sense perceptions, while the right side deals with logic. For me this means that consciousness is feminine and logic is masculine. Since ancient societies lived during the awake period, they operated with consciousness. This is why ancient societies were matriarchies (female ruling) and modern societies are patriarchies (males rule).
If what you're saying is true, then it perfectly contradicts what I studied in Psychology. The left brain processes in a linear, sequential, logical manner. When you process on the left side, you use information piece by piece to solve a math problem or work out a science experiment. When you read and listen, you look for the pieces so that you can draw logical conclusions.

However, when you process primarily on the right side of the brain, you use intuition. You may know the right answer to a math problem but not be sure how you got it. You may have to start with the answer and work backwards. On a quiz, you have a gut feeling as to which answers are correct, and you are usually right. In writing, it is the left brain that pays attention to mechanics such as spelling, agreement, and punctuation. But the right side pays attention to coherence and meaning; that is, your right brain tells you it "feels" right. Sound familiar?

I think we worship the Moon also. The days of full moon energize the Earth. Ifr you've ever worked in a hospital or law you will realize criminal activity increases significantly on full moon days. If you ever feel unexplicably energetic look up at the sky, odds are theres a full moon.

Im talking about humans as early as 5000 years ago. I do believe ancient societies possesed an intelligence much greater than ours. I base this on the fact that they were able to build structures which we still can not replicate, and they calculated heavenly movements with mathematics that we're only recently beginning to understand. Yes, one could say our brains 'reset'. Although I would rather say that there's less energy in the planet as a whole, therefore putting us in a 'sleep' state. Another interesting fact is that there's no history recorded before 5000 years ago. The little knowledge on ancient societies we have has been gained only recently through studying their monuments. Its as if history 'reseted' itself 5000 years ago.

I speculate that we're on the waking up period. I say this because the Earth as well as the Sun seem to be energizing, I say this based on the increasing natural activity in the last few years and has increased exponentially in the last several months. I also base this on the exponentially increasing number of kids with unprecedented high physical and psychic abilities.
Plus the Mayan prophecies which say the world will change in 2012.

Noted. The fact is that the left side of the brain rules the right side of the body. The right side of the brain rules the left side of the body. This is why I say the left is associated with females. Thanks for the correction.

I'm going to enjoy a field day with this thread (if I find the time and energy to crank out a quality post). But the timing of this thread is funny because my new girlfriend eats chick crack for breakfast.

Love to hear what you have to say. This is the first time I share these theories so I wanna hear other people's perspectives about them.

Interesting theory but this has several flaws. The whole "We are only using a small percentage of our brain, if we utilized our full capacity we could become so much smarter!" theory has been debunked. The reason why we can recruit only a certain percentage of our brain for a given task if because the rest of the brain is doing different things. Such as breathing, memory related, involuntary muscles and thousands of other processes that you are not conscious of. You cannot "use" these parts of the brain.

Also where did you get the 10% statistic for muscles as well?

I concluded this from all the stories about people in perilous situations who suddenly have super-human strength. They lift cars, giant boulders and so on to rescue trapped family members/friends/whatever. This strength never comes from thinking it comes from reacting. If you thought whether you could lift a car or not, you wouldnt be able to do it. So I think super strength comes controlled mind activity.
Another fact that supports this is that chimps and animals in general are up to 10x stronger than a human with the same muscle density. This is probably because they cant think about whether they will be strong enough. I'm not saying you must be completely dumb to use your muscles to full capacity. I'm saying that maybe we're not using our energy at full capacity and that perhaps this is because we are in a 'sleep' period.

Not 10x stronger. More like 4 to 6x stronger. This is mostly because their muscles are wired differently and anchored for extra leverage. Like their jaws. Just look at how large that muscle is and how much extra leverage the jaw gets. They can and will bite through bone.

Also, they have more short twitch muscles which give them extra strength but reduced endurance much like powerlifters. You can easily outjog a chimp if you're given a head start of 200m or so.

I believe we live this exact same life ad infinitum.

My theory is based on the fact that the universe is expanding and will one day start contracting again, back to a single indivisible point.

I'm not a mathematician, but it seems logical to me that if something materialises from an indivisible point, then it must materialise in exactly the same way every time. Every molecule and atom will end up connecting to the same molecules and atoms it did during the previous "big bang", and therefore, every solar system and planet, every DNA strand and every living being will be formed exactly the same way every time.

It's just another form of determinism really, but I believe there's enough scientific evidence to back up this theory.

Also, because we have no awareness of being dead or non-existant, this means that we will always believe ourselves to exist. We will never be conscious of those gazillion years between dying and being reborn during a new universe cycle.

That has a flaw as well though. There is a reason why humans don't go walking around lifting cars like that in every day situations.

You know what working out is right? You lift weights, muscle fibers break down and if you diet and sleep right they build back stronger. (In a very simplified sense)

Now imagine instead of deadlifting 400-500lbs....(which is already a lot for the average person) you are deadlifting a car...The average U.S. car is 4000lbs. To lift something of that magnitude whether its like a car or boulder or whatever.... it DESTROYS your muscle fibers. And your body doesn't go around wasting resources and destroying fibers for no reason. So yes you are right in that we have the ability to lift cars and such...just if we were to go around doing it constantly our body would run out of resources and we would die. That's why we don't have the ability to will out Superman strength.

I suspect that there are other factors involved in those superman stories, such as structural damage to the car.

Actually Jariel, we have no idea if the Unvierse will contract. It is accelerating at a faster and faster pace is the latest theory. We don't understand dark energy, nor dark matter. Infact, I would say we are as smart as fish in a bowl, looking out. We don't know WTF is out there and can't see the dimensions. It is like a dog, you can't teach it to drive a car and build a rocket, just as humans understanding may be incredibly limited (and why our theories continuously change with us still having absolutely no clue what is out there or how the Universe works). We base our 'physics' on how our world and solar system works and then extrapolate that to the entire universe. Imagine if a fish did that in their bowl to the world around them.

Your last paragraph is interesting. How do you know we have no awareness of being dead or non-existant? A lot of people who have actually died and come back to life a long time later (some upto hours later) all say they had a feeling of complete calm but knew they were no longer in this conscious world.

Great thread though.

My crazy theory: We don't know anything about the Unvierse and our creation of 'dark matter', 'dark energy', 'string theory' et al are probably way off the mark. The human race is as doomed as the dinosaurs and everything else that has gone extinct. So what is the point of life? These movies like Troy that say to 'be remembered in eternity' mean nothing if the race will end. Is it to be good (which then begs, what is 'good'?) To be happy? Hmmmmmmmm, all very interesting.

My answer to that, the purpose of all humans in life is to be happy.
Take a flower, its whole purpose in life is to blossom. It is a very simple purpose, yet accomplishing it contributes so much to the universe. It contributes to the beauty of the landscape, it feeds bees and insects, as well as other animals, it also spreads the seeds of the plant. Many functions are fullfilled simply by this flower accomplishing its purpose in life.

This applies to humans too. Our purpose in this world is to be happy. Accomplishing this always ends up benefiting our society and the universe as a whole. For example, a musician who sings because it makes him happy, and at the same time lifts up the spirits of others through his music.

- Living in north America will lead to mind control/castration/depression or schizophrenia eventually. Failure to comply will lead to imprisonment/isolation/suicide or character assassination.

- North America will eventually be run by militant women, gays/lesbians. Straight white men will no longer be accepted in the workplace, in parental roles or in culture unless they exhibit bisexual tendencies. Their opinions will be disregarded if not compliant with gay/lesbian/trans-gender/feminist/gender-neutral.

- Single Mothers will be celebrated and considered normal.

- Fathers will be made redundant

- Massive migration into the East.

- Macho behaviors in schools will be outlawed, corrected and cease to exist. Gender Neutral attitudes will be the norm. North American females will be indistinguishable from North American males.

- Problems will be blamed on straight males and male like tendencies. Delusional women will hold 'slut walks' and parades promoting promiscuity and moral decay.

- North America will become a Muslim ruled territory.

This would make a very good horror movie, sans the last bit about Muslims.

It would appear that you don't know much about Islamic culture; how can anything pro-women simultaneously exist under Muslim rule?

Again though, this would make an awesome terror movie as I got nauseated just reading it. It's almost like a Nazi/Star-Wars/Post-Apocalyptic scenario; there'd be that Ben Kenobi character, telling stories of James Bond/Alpha-male culture outlawed during his childhood, and everywhere in this futuristic hell are propaganda posters and various subliminal messaging showing obvious loathing towards males.

Like Planet of the Apes, but with women!!! The (w)horror.

In all seriousness I think it'd take awhile for these events to take place, but no doubt the world is undergoing a silent sexual revolution, a-la The Sixties; this time it's focusing more on being gay than actually expressing yourself. Anybody seen that Spongebob episode where Mr. Krabs' daughter starts working there, and everything becomes ultra-fag? That's the state the generation is in.

Right on guys, glad you all see this. Took me 35 years to figure that out...well, maybe 34. :) Life gets better once you do though, that's for sure. Keeps getting better.
