Alright, check this out. This week, i'm driving an 06 Mustang GT convertible since the 350Z is in the shop (bumper, hood, doors, glass, etc *sigh*). Anyway, i washed the damn thing and parked it, dripping wet, outside a 7/11. Went inside to grab my very frugal evening snack - a 2-dollar burrito, and came out to see a MILF standing like half a foot away from my car and staring at me. She flat-out asked me if she can get in the car with me and "go somewhere." "Where?" "Anywhere." I kid you not. Alright, i know that nice cars make getting laid easy, but this is ridiculous So what happened? Not a hell of a lot. I wasn't particularly attracted to her (she was pretty, but it'd take a bit more than that for me to sleep with someone who's almost twice m yage). I told her that i was sorry, but couldn't do this, so she got really disappointed and left. Two minutes later, i was still sitting in the car and eating my burrito, and she came back and did the whole thing with putting her arm on my door, smiling and saying "Goin somewhere? " Alright, what the hell? She's seen one too many porn movies! I apologized once again, she looked even more disappointed and walked off (presumably / hopefully) to look for a cab. I didn't stick around for Take 3 and got the hell out of there

Convertibles are awesome to pick up chicks with. I drive a Boxster and ladies of all ages stare. A couple of weeks ago a chick pulled up to me at a light at around midnight. She said "Hey nice car" and kept staring at me for a response. Now I was shocked at this babe,at midnight is trying to hit on me. I said "Yeah, thanks" and blew her a kiss and hit my onramp.

She sounds like a hooker or a b!tch that needed a ride somewhere. I wouldn't read into it too much.

For every girl that likes convertibles, there a girl that dislikes them and one who couldn't care one way or the other. I lived in northern Texas for a long time and if you wanted your ride to impress girls there, you got a full-size truck.

And in Vegas I actually had girls walking past convertibles to compliment me on the M5 at some of our car meet get together things. And the most panty-dropping car I've ever been in was my 58 Cadillac two-door hardtop (tied for panty-dropping quotient with my 93 RX-7).

Not that I have anything against convertibles, I'm actually looking for a 64 Continental, I just don't think it affects girls as much as you're implying.

When I was 17 I started repairing guitar amps(half stacks,heads, etc) that I found for cheap. I would flip them on eBay for alot more money to foreign countries. When I turned 17 I decided I wanted a nice car and started saving. I bought myself it for my 18th birthday present(legal age to own a car). Im almost 19 and the car still manages to put a grin on my face everytime I start it up.

Thats why I pay near $4k a year for insurance and I dont even have one ticket.

Yes convertibles are unbelieveable. I want to get one of those when I graduate from the university. Also the BMW 3-series coupe with the chrome style pack is a chick magnet too.

agreed! I drive a Mustang...what I wouldn't give for it to be a drop-top though I get all kinds of attention cuz of my car (18" chromies, black leather, hood scoop, all the toys) and I'm gonna lower it, tint the windows, cold air intake and put dual exhaust on it to make it faster, but I can only imagine how much better off with the ladies I could be with a 'vert.

I paid in the high 20s area about a year ago. Its a fully optioned 99 with low mileage. Yeah its true early Boxsters can be had for around $15k but I don't recommend them for everyone. But to be realistic $15k is a unequipped 97(first year). The suspension was changed in 98 for a reason,97s couldnt handle 18 inch wheels or up. All Porsches from 97-99 had a MAJOR issue with RMS failures,$1k-2k to fix(not cheap to fix). Most can afford one but not the maintainence;$300 oil change,$380 alignment,$180 spark plug change.

Insurance wasn't hard to find as AAA was more then happy to insure me.

Bloody hell... am I the only guy on Earth that can't pull tail with a topless sportscar?! :cuss: I had a freaking Dodge Viper roadster for 5+ years (bought it when I got into college)... sold it last fall, and got a new Lotus Elise two months ago and between the two, I've got almost no interest from the ladies. I could count the number of times a hot, young item convo'd me about my cars on one hand... no kidding. I mean, I've dropped major coin on cars because... well... I love cars and driving... so pu$$y not really the goal here, but jeez, I keep hearing you guys swearing by the things to get the attention of the ladies, but WTF? Seriously, Do I have to wait until I can afford the damn Pagani Zonda F Roadster? Sorry... didn't mean to rant. Just figured if a Mustang convertible would work, my choice in hardware would certinly work as well.

P.s I'm going to now go calculate exactly how much Ive earned over the last 4 years working part time and then work out how much I've blown.

Edit : Ok working 2 days a week I make 500 bucks ( 20 bucks cash an hour plus the extras customers leave behind, under the table so no tax heehee ) so every week ( Yea no holidays ) I make 26g a year. 4 years that makes 104g .................. now for the bummer part from that 104g all I have to show is 5g in the 3 bank accounts, I gotta cut back on them spending habits, instead of driving a crap mitsi I should have a real nice car .................. excuse me while I go commit suicide LOL.

You want advaice about getting a sweet ride... okay:

1. Love cars... no, really, be a true enthusiast. Enough to blow roughly half your disposable income on a car payment.

2. Don't buy much of anything else... go frugal on most things (clothes, music, food, magazines, pretty much anything else), and spend most of your dough on the car and the insurance.

3. Buy a cooler car used than a less cool new one. My logic: A used Viper at ~$40k instead of a top tier new Mustang SVT or whatever for ~$40k... or a used M3 instead of a new 3-series in the ~$20k range... or whatever your budget/taste in equipment is.

4. Get a beater (like my $4000 2000 Honda Civic GX) for a daily driver so you don't rack up the miles and service expences on your toy. Do your own work where you can as specialty car work is often asinine. I did all the work on the Viper myself (including a pain-in-the-a$$ thermostat rebuild).

5. ...and for God freakin' sakes don't chome anything!!! :cuss: Okay, this isn't budget orineted advice, but there's too much talk of chrome this, chrome that. Ack. Like one automotive journalist said "In this day and age, chrome on automobiles is pretty much the knee-high, white socks of the car world." I concur wholeheartedly.

Not really. I once made a few thousand on eBay in about 4 days (5 hours total work) by re-selling gas masks (after the anthrax scare).
