As someone that has lived through the whole life-cycle of PUA from the early days in the internet - OK, there were "How to Hit on Girls" books from the Swinging '70s
- I can comment on this.
The internet in general has been as big of a change-event to society as the printing press was about half a millennium ago, and so there was a high pent-up demand for solutions to the mating problem, a problem that became a reality for the first time in human history due to the Baby Bust, which itself was the first time in monogamy-normative civilized history when there was both a decline in fecundity but not also a recent young-men-thinning-war, thus creating a female shortage.
One solution that popped up coincided with the fall of the USSR
, but for those that didn't want to GeoMax (PassportBroMax), there was PUAGame that a lot of Incel-normative men could learn to fix their mating problem. Notwithstanding that PUAGame does help a little bit - if only to give its practitioners more cahones to actually talk to women without spazzing out
- for most men, it did not fix the problem. The first wave of cynics about PUAGame were the True Forced Loneliness legends like "Roller" Steve Hoca, but eventually the canonical Incel movement came arose from the ashes of all the PUAGameMaxxers that came to the conclusion that PUAGame did not work - and then hypergamy took off with the Tinderization of the mating market to almost totally extinguish the embers of hope that PUAGame had given. At this point, it really was OVER for a lot of men, and the PUA hustlers ran out of customers.
