Contact over summer?

I moved out of my dorm today, and while waiting for the elevator to leave, I started talking to this girl...got her number. Seeing as I am going back home to another state for the summer, I won't be able to see her until September. Should I contact her at all over the summer? Or should I just give her a ring when I get back to school next semester? My intuition tells me to just wait, but what do you guys think?
