You should have engaged your friend into your talk and "games," so he can learn how to "game" a HB instead of leaving him looking like a chump. Then when the conversation is most excited, leave, let your friend take over. If he messes it up and the HB likes you, he won't hate you since you helped to hook him up and you let him had his chance. This way you get 1 or 2 (HB hooks up w/your friend you get your friend or HB hooks up w/ you you still have your friend and HB). The way you handled it, you either get the HB and loose your friend or no HB at all and loose your friend, which might have already happened.
