I have a friend right now doing software devel for $80K with a masters degree and another friend pulling like $90K and doing a PhD at MIT. I also studied CS in college, but didn't like it out there in the field. Too much pressure, too many deadlines and u have to stare at a computer screen most of the day doing debugging. In short, I didn't like it, but I have friends who are making good money with it.

I would recommend a masters degree if you went all out. But if you just want to learn programming for fun and as a hobby, you shouldn't necessarily pursue it as a degree. I made the mistake of doing it too fast and now had to go back to school to study business to get away from the CS field. Also, do an internship if you can. You'll get a good idea of what it's all about.

Cool, glad 2 see your interested in pursuing a course in comps. Well what do u want 2 know?

Since i started my degree, i have studied Pascal, C, C++, and currently doing java...o i forgot html

Well be prepared for the maths and physics side aswell. Part of my course requires electonics and building circutry. This isnt that hard and your shouldnt be intimadated by it. Even if your poor at maths theres plenty of help available in tutorials and also asking the lectures.. Im alot more comfortable in maths and physics now then what i was when i was 18.
The part of my course i enjoy the most is networking and commiuncation networks. This is where u can design networks for businesses etc. Look up your college of preference and im sure theres plenty of information on what courses are on offer.
This year in my university they began a new undergraduate course in desiging computer games.. Thats something i might consider lookin into when i gradute, theres an abundance of possibilites on what u can achieve.
Hope everything works out for u :D
They still teach Pascal? Damn what a waste of time. I'm glad my school had switched over to Java when I started. Also C++ is overrated. I like scripting langages right now. Python is my fav.

LOl yeah they did in first year, i think it was just a intro 2 programming, as many people had no experiene. Yeah i profer the scripting ones myself, i actullay quite enjoy java now 2 b4..

As regards 2 IT guys nit getting chicks, what a crock of shi*e! I was on work experience last year in an insurance sompany. I was working in the IT dept and every day i would be going around 2 the different departments fixing problems and gettin 2 talk 2 the Hot Chicks in accounts and different depts. I used 2 flirt a little fix their problem and get out of there, after work i would always be asked what i was doing for the wknd!! And im only 22, these were like hot 23- 28yr olds.

If you can fix problems for women without hidden motives, they respect you more and find that irresistible in a man!
