Okay so gaming co-workers. First off, I know this is generally a bad idea, hooking up with people you work with, but i'm not going to be here super long and am mostly just using this as a springboard to learn serving/bartending and then bounce to a better paying job when i can. I'm training as a server at a restaurant and the waitstaff is like 80% girls, many of whom are cute post-college girls. Servers at restaurants tend to grow very close to their co-workers.
A few of my guy friends are servers and after working at another place for months, pretty soon they had almost a rotating supply of girls they were sleeping with, partially because there's a good amount of turnover with servers. It kind of sucks because even though i'm more attractive and have better game than any of the other guy servers, i'm very low on the totem pole as a trainee.
I have to 'prove myself' before the girls even acknowledge me. Which is strange because im not used to this at jobs. But i noticed it yesterday when i had my first legit, non-training shift. Suddenly the girls went from ignoring me to actually being friendly and chatty. However it's still annoying because most of them don't really acknowledge me for the most part. Which is fine, i just have to prove that i'm not a slacker and that i'm going to carry my weight.
Thoughts? I'm thinking that slow playing the hell out of this is the way to go. Be extremely laidback, friendly, but still slightly flirty. I'm typically pretty blunt and aggressive, but this probably will take a bit more tact. Don't make any blantant moves like number closing or anything beyond casual conversation and playful flirting at work, because this is a closed knit group and if anyone thinks you are creepy or a try hard then you could blow it with the entire group.. However, if they see you as a likable, social, fun, attractive guy, and the entire waitstaff likes you, then it's only a matter of time .
I've already kind of picked up on who's off limits and who is interested (one of the girls is always super flirty and buddy buddy with one of the guy waiters so i think theyre sleeping together, and another cute girl is already dating the brother of one of my best friends, so those two are out). It's mildly annoying because there's this other new girl who is suuuper cute and who i was flirting with a bit... but this overly outgoing guy server who's been there for a while is relentlessly talking to her. He's one of those super social extroverts that just talks CONSTANTLY, and i cant tell if she's into him or just being friendly. I feel like he's just going to keep trying way too hard and blow himself off, and my plan is to basically ignore the girl most of the time and play it super cool..hopefully make him look like a try-hard.
