It occured to me today just how frustrating going to the mall and shopping for new clothes is for me. Usually I just wear a snug poloshirt and lose-fitting jeans, but I decided I'd like to go for something a little different now that I'm actually trying to better my lifestyles. While doing this I discovered something.....

I HATE CURRENT FASHION!

I don't know where I fit is what it comes down to. I'm not some skater kid, I despise the Hip-Hop look and the Scenster Emo look. I'm certainly not an uber-preppy metrosexual trying to look like I have money. It leaves me kind of lost when looking for clothes.

My other problem with clothes shopping is that I'm extremely limited in my choices because of my size. Being 6'4, broad shouldered, and requiring at least a 38x34 pant size dosen't exactly leave you with many choices in the average stores. I have this theory that clothing stores are trying to make the little guys feel bigger. Used to be I could buy an XL t-shirt and it'd be a little baggy on me. Now I buy an XL and it fits like a medium on me.

That's a somewhat easy fix as long as internet shopping and Big and Tall stores exsist I suppose. My biggest problem is my distaste for current trends.

Any suggestions?

Ha ha. I feel ya on that one man. I went to the mall yesterday and picked out some nice clothing. I used to wear jeans, a polo-style shirt, and tennis shoes..and now I've swapped to wearing some button up shirts, leather shoes (casual, nice looking ones)that match a belt, and colored socks that go with the shoes and belt.. It's a change, but it really does make you look nicer, more manicured, and helps with the confidence.

You'd be suprised. I once was like you and wore tight fit polo shirts, jeans, and white sneaks. But that's just screaming to most women "I'm insecure and I need to wear what I feel comfortable in."

Goto the mall, try on some clothes you'd never think of wearing (or buying for that matter.. $$$$), and see what you think. My bet is, you're going to walk out buying something that you would never think of buying if you didn't try it on.

Take a girl with you and have her pick some stuff out for you to try on and if you like something or she tells you that you have to buy it do so

Wear it out at least once and make sure its a day when youll be in lots of social situations and watch the reactions youll know if its working for you

Instead of wearing a plain polo why dont you try to "spicen it up" with a stripped polo? Instead of baggy jeans invest in some designer jeans. "Peacock" with a silver chain or bracelet,or heaven forbid in our age a watch.

how old are you? some variation of blazer, pants, tshirt and nice non athletic sneakers/dress shoes should suit most males in most casual occasions. also the untucked button shirt with rolled up sleeves and jeans. look to movie actors... they have, if nothing else, good taste in clothes. keanu reeves, jude law, clive owen....

don't DESPISE style. develop one that you like that does not look freakish to others. and bam. you're set.

do you mean 34x38? cuz 38x34 would give a completely different image of your dimensions.

also, 6'4" in texas isn't extravagantly large is it?

Everywhere you want to be.... I'm like a Visa card
I just went clothes shopping on Saturday. Go figure.

Delta, I wear 38x30. I really fit right in 36, but then they shrink in the wash and don't fit. So I wear 38 and it fits just right after it shrinks.

I live in Texas, and I'm 5'11''. I'm usually an inch or two taller than most of my friends, if not the same height. Of course, there are people taller than me, but 5'11'' for a college-age guy is normal.

And why do you believe that you will find good fashions in average stores?
